Hi I was wondering what views were out there on the manual and auto versions of the 2.2 C6. I've test driven the manual and the 2.7 but not the 2.2 auto. Is it same gearbox as 2.7? Just wondered if there were any owners of the 2.2 auto that could say what they think of it. Thanks Marc |

It's the same Aisin 6 speed auto in all automatic transmission C6's (and C5). I haven't driven a C6 2.2 auto either but I've driven 2.2 diesel manual, 3.0 petrol, 2.7 & 3.0 diesel auto's!

If you look at the tech specs of the 2.2 and 2.7 auto's - Click Here - then the 0-60 is 2.5 secs less but fuel economy isn't a lot different The big difference is in C02 so less road tax Have to say though that I haven't driven a 2.2 in either guise so can't comment on any actual differences |

I have driven a couple of 2.7's, and now have a 2.2 auto. Economy is around 35mpg, (and see my post recently on this!), which is not terribly different from a 2.7. The 2.2 is quite a lot more than the larger car, if one buys from a Citroen dealer, and there are certainly (on the Exclusive) differences- no spoiler, no lounge pack. There isn't the lag pulling away from rest, either, although others may have another view(!) The road tax is less, but that should not affect your decision. I've not done a test on the acceleration, but I don't think that there is much, or any, difference in the real world. Quietness- at thorougly illegal speeds, there is no difference. I think that the Jaguar XF is noisier, actually. A friend has had 3 2.7's, and now a 2.2 (auto always) and concurs with the above. Would I buy the same again? The step off lag bothers me, so the answer is yes. If it does not worry you, then go for the 2.7. Tim |

Thanks Gents. I was a bit taken aback by the slower 0-60 of the 2.2 auto. The manual seemed swift enough to me, but the autos acceleration looks slower and the 175 versus 199 g/km suggests quite a difference re fuel economy. Guess the manual does what very close to 40mpg average? Have been driving XM2.5s for a long time now, C6 seems significantly bigger car all round. Get 35-36 mpg average from XM tanking it mostly motorway, would be nice to have more power but still good car I think. To C6 or not to C6 that's the question! Cheers Marc |

The manual does 0-62 in 9.5s (official figures), and consumption is 32.5 (urban), 52.3 (ex-urban) and 42.8 (combined). Having had both the manual and the 2.7 auto, there's little to choose between them in terms of acceleration in my view. The difference is in consumption - I struggled to get 30mpg from the 2.7, but average 37 in the 2.2 and on a long-ish run 45mpg.
