No sound from drivers side speakers

 I've only just had the car and am making my way through the instruction book! There's no sound from the drivers side (right) speakers. I've gone through the menu and made sure the L/R balance is correct and with the radio on as I move the balance over to the right the sound dies (maybe a very faint sound still coming from the left side speakers).

Any ideas? I can't see anything obvious in the book but wondered if the 'mute' buttons etc on the ends of the stalks might upset things? I may have pushed something because the washers and other things are the opposite way around to my other car - so it could be 'operator error'!
