Hello all. I'm trying to chase down the source of a high pitched noise that seems to be coming from the front of my C6. It can be heard from the drivers seat and front passenger seat. At first I thought it was an electric sound coming from the front speakers. Its not present all the time, independent of car speed and engine speed. Some days the noise isn't present at all. Any ideas? |

Heater fan? Try adjusting fan speed. Mine is noisy at one position. |

Thanks Dan595, Good suggestion, I forgot to mention I've tried that too, switching off the fan makes no difference. Also switching off the stereo doesn't affect the sound either.

Is it like a high pitched groan / whine? Does it change if you touch the accelerator, even gently? I've had a similar noise in the C6 (and in quite a few other cars, a Mondeo, Fiesta and a Volvo S40 to name some), it sounds like some kind of vacuum hose / pump or something and is responsive to even a very light throttle touch). |

Hi Ciaran2, its more like a high pitched buzz, it really sounds electrical rather than a mechanical sound. Nothing I do can replicate or affect the sound. Somedays its their occasionally, somedays not there at all. Very weird.

Have you tried to switch off the fan in the middle console that controls the airflow to the rear passengers.

It could be the cooling fan inside the rear of the display, it might have picked up a bit of dust / dirt and be intermittently off balance. This fan is small and therefore rotates quite fast, they can make a scratching / buzzing sound when loaded up with dust, or the bearings are drying out. Quite similar to computer fans in the same circumstance. Ciaran |

Wow that could be it! I'll have a look online to see how to get to the fan so I can inspect it.

That fan is only in an first year C6 with the RT3 system.

Oh, my cars a 2006 model with what I think is the RT3 system. Is the fan easily accessible?

I think mine had that problem - intermittent. I thought it was related to a/c fan but this could be the source. Mine was built in November 2006 and it had RT3. I tried get a garage to have a look but that wasn't going anywhere. |
