The problem I have now it's that the engine is totaly blocked, and to disassemble the gear box of the engine, to acces the srew of the convertisseur I have to unscrew 6 screw that are only reachable on a window rear the engine... |

The correct access point is on the bottom of the engine. You could try tipping it over on it's side to get to it (empty the oil first!)?

Sorry to hear that. Was it what we all fear: sudden brutal stop due to oil/bearing problem in crankshaft area ? There was a company close to the Ford Dagenham factory that delivered rebuild engines. There is also a YouTube movie from E Europe (Poland ?) that shows rebuilding this engine, including changing the oil pump with the new and better version. |

You might have been lucky, only the generator clutch giving up (aux belt will jump off = no charging, no circulation of cooling and HEAVY steering) ? PLease update when you know more.

Althought this is an old thread, I might add some info to it from South Africa which has quite a few land Rover Discovery 3 and 4 models which as you know shares the engine with Citroen. The 3.0 has been relatively troublefree since its release. A rule of thumb these days with the Discovery 3 is that if the engine has done 200 000km then it will last as long as it gets serviced when it should be seviced. The 2.7 engine apparently according to local websites gets replaced by LR quite regularly as long as it has a full service history with LR. Apparently a few engineering firms locally rebuild the 2.7 engines with updates. But all aside a rule of thumb here is if the 2.7 has done 200 000 km it will last. The landrover Discovery 3 seems to have a much worse reputation with crank failures than the C5 or C6's possibly due to the weight of the car compared to the landrovers and I personally wonder if the smaller twin turbo's may possibly be less load on the crank compared to the bigger single turbo's of the land rovers? But all said, the 3.0 is considered indestructable this side of the world |

That's interesting, Corne! The 3.0 in the Disco's, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover in the UK have a bad reputation for failing! David. |

Aren't the Range Rover Sport etc driving to 4 wheels and tuned to put out 600Nm torque @ 2000 rpm compared to the C6's 450Nm at 1600 rpm? That's quite a bit of difference if correct? |
