Well the new tank has landed today... The breather pipe has a slightly different arrangement to the old tank...

Old:

New:

Here's where the spring we found lives...

The only thing that I needed to take off the old tank was the magnetic sensor for the fuel filler cap...

The o-ring around the sender unit and the hog ring that hold it in were replaced, the string on the fuel filler cap was broken so that was replaced and I'd ordered a new o-ring for the top of the filler neck that seals onto the cap but the new tank came with one of them already fitted.

Unfortunately I'd forgotten that there were a couple of small clips that had broken when the tank was removed, the captive nuts that hold the arch liner in were corroded so I'm going to order some new ones tomorrow, hopefully the dealer has them in stock!

Anyway, we're getting there!

David.

The end has arrived, G!

I finished fitting the tank tonight as I managed to get the clips I needed from Citroen this morning.

Interestingly, the guide to removing the exhaust on the 2.7 shows that it's in 2 parts, a centre and a back box, unfortunately, on this 2.2 that isn't the case, from the DPF to the rear is one piece. This leads to problems removing it, I had to drop the anti roll bar to be able to get the exhaust out which was a bit of a [%*^#@!].

This C6 has actually come apart and gone back together very nicely, everything has dropped into place and come apart/gone back together very nicely indeed.

Anyway, I finished putting it all back together tonight, poured 20 litres of Diesel into it from a jerry can and then took it to the local Shell station 6 miles away to get Diesel. I put the nozzle into the tank and with everything crossed I pulled the trigger... Never have I breathed such a sigh of relief to see the £'s and Litres flying up at a rate of knots.

It's now sitting on the driveway with a full tank of Diesel and no issues at all when filling it.

One thing I have noticed is that 3 of the 4 tyres are a little soft after 2 weeks sitting, I went round it tonight with some soapy water and there is a tiny little leak from the valves so I need to order some new seals for them tomorrow.

In true Citroen form, I really don't think this car wants to be completely fixed!!

Anyway, I shall not be beaten!!

Well Done David,
I'm also in the process of fixing various problems (nothing as frustrating as what you've had to sort out with the fuel tank) I have been reading up on the technical documents section ready for action over Easter and i noticed from the photos when you had removed the C6 tank that the ABS cables run over (I think) or is it under the tank? I'm hoping to to replace what appears to be a faulty sensor reading on the left rear hub, which i believe feeds back to other areas in the car. Hoping to tick that issue of my list.

Well done again and thank you for your daily postings.

kind regards

The ABS sensors at the rear do indeed run over the fuel tank. I've heard from one specialist that you can *just* do one of them without removing the tank and the other requires tank removal. Looking at it I'd guess that it's the rear passengers side that requires the tank to be removed as the connector is mounted to the hog ring that holds the sender unit in. This is accessed by lifting the back seats if you're lucky enough not to have the lounge pack or removing the back seats if you've got the lounge pack.

Once you've done that the drivers side rear could be persuaded out, unfortunately I don't think the passengers side will if you want to route the cable properly so it sounds like you may need to take your tank out too.

It's not that bad a job but don't rush it. It took me between 1.5 and 2 hours to get mine out and about the same spread over 2 evenings to put it back together as I had to collect clips from Citroen.

Where are you based? Happy to lend a hand if you're local.

Hi David,
I was a bit worried that the tank might need to come out to replace the rear ABS sensors properly, I will go back and double check everything first, i haven't been in for a good close inspection yet to see if it might be a damaged or lose connect or something easier, but at least the C6 Fuel Tank Breather posting will be very helpful as guidance in removing the tank if i it comes to that.

I'm based in Dublin, Ireland but many thanks for the kind offer.

kind regards
