On my otherwise excellent physical condition C6, the rubber at the top of the windscreen in poor shape. Has anyone seen this?

Not sure whether this is just the rubber in poor shape, or whether there's been a botched windscreen replacement job done? Would like to know of other's experiences.

Also thoughts on repairing..

Thanks

Looks like the rubber has started to Migrate, perhaps due to car being kept in a hot climate or possibly if near the sea it could be salt that has caused the problem.
I assume that it could be an MOT failure though?
Only course of action is to replace with new rubber......Costly I reckon.

Well I took another look - all the other rubber on the car (at the rear/ bottom etc.) is perfectly fine. So it's a bit of a mystery, and when I feel the rubber at the top - doesn't feel like it's vaporising.

I will ask the dealer when I next take it in. The plastic strip either side of the windscreen running vertically each side is not totally secured onto the glass. I really think that it's been the victim of a poor windscreen replacement, and like someone has literally hacked it out at some point. Will get to the bottom of it!

Assuming it's not too costly, I will get it repaired. It's still under Citroen Warranty - but doubt this will be covered.

Still think its weather related, you don't drive the car backwards and going forward pushes all the wet up to the top of the screen where it will be subject to salt ingress.
Good luck with the fix though.

Have it booked in for an oil change next week @ Citroen Basingstoke, and have asked them to look at this as and give me their view. Also have them checking the "clunk" I get when applying accelerator/ braking.

Additionally, over the weekend I had to call out Citroen Assist as the battery ran flat: I think the MP3 CD I'd entered had confused the Navidrive, and it kept on trying/ retrying to play it. Have the dealer also double-checking my battery next week. AA (who came on behalf of Citroen Assist) said that whilst they got the car going, and the battery was taking a good charge, their diagnostic equipment was saying it needed a new battery. (This was after them struggling to get access to the hidden-away battery in the boot, in the pouring rain!).

Will be interesting to see what outcomes I get on the 3 issues, and what Citroen Warranty will cover! Will update...

You are, like me, having an uneven share of problems with your C6 at the moment, lets hope that we both plateau shortly.

Next time, which hopefully is never, they may try the terminals under the bonnet. Battery can be charged via these.
I wonder if the "clonk" are the wishbones and also if warranty will cover these! I hear different stories from here.

So - as promised here is an update following my C6 day out at Citroen Basingstok, and whilst it was in there I got the oil/ filter done ("mini service").

First the good news: the "clunk" diagnosed as worn front suspension bushes. Covered by warranty and will be fixed (normal price c.£500 + VAT). Hope that sorts that.

Battery: They advise that the battery is not charging fully and needs replacing (following my AA call-out last week). Strongly advising I don't fit an aftermarket model, and that this will come in @ £250 & VAT or so. Won't be covered by warranty (even though I bought the car 6 wks ago..). They say given the amount of electronic "stuff" going on in the car, it really pays to get the real thing fitted. What are other's thoughts on this? Real McCoy or after market?

Seal around front windscreen. They agree not in good shape - won't be covered by warranty - but will put in a call to the selling Dealer for me to press my case. To fully renew the top as well as the side seals (which are in poor shape) will cost c.£250.

Apart from that - all good apparently! On the battery, I kind of get it's a consumable, but the windscreen sealing I really think ought to be covered by Citroen, and picked-up in it's much vaunted pre-delivery check...

Whilst it was there - I got the oil/ filter done ("mini service").

More updates as I get them...

There is a thread on the battery and you need a very specific one or the car will throw a wobbly..............

IMNSHO, you should go with either the Varta H3 or the OEM battery (also a Varta), whichever is more convenient...

You do need the right specification battery all right but that does seem steep. I've just had a new Varta battery fitted in my Quattroporte, by a Maserati specialist, for £95 (inc fitting, which isn't exactly a two minute job as the boot trim needs to come out). Its battery is even bigger than the C6's.

Time to hit Google methinks.

Quick update on the seals. Got new side windscreen seals fitted (at about £90 + VAT from Citroen for the parts) and got the rubber seal at top of windscreen renewed. So back to perfect condition...

The deterioration at the top was diagnosed by the windscreen fitter as being the results of pressure wash... Which I can understand - and would explain why no deterioration elsewhere... But maybe I'll never know now.

Car running great 4 months in to my ownership. Once I got the front suspension wishbones fixed under warranty - it's been a dream. Touch wood. Drives great/ looks great. Will never get better than this!
