Hi everyone. I used to visit here a lot when I had a 2.7 for several years.

Well after some BMWs and other things I’m now considering a 2.2 manual C6.

I’ve been out of the game for a while so I wanted to ask a a few things. I’m looking at this one:

- Firstly, the 2.7 used to eat front ball joints. I had them replaced maybe four times. Does the 2.2 have the same front suspension setup or was this modified at any time?

- Does the 2.2 have the same hydro suspension, I recall reading that it didn't? (Checking photos I can see the height adjustment next to the gearstick)

- Was the display unit changed during the cars lifetime? I thought the 2.2 had a smaller screen with a wider plastic surround but the one I’m looking at has a screen the same as my 2.7

- I presume parts are easier to source now? Back when I had mine (2010-2014 ish) they were scarce and expensive. The cars are really cheap now, comparatively.

- I used to get a lot of B pillar wind noise. Is that a thing, or different on the 2.2? Does anyone else notice that? Maybe it was just mine.

- The engine sounds far more agricultural than the 2.7, but is it as bad as YouTube would suggest?

- I can’t remember if it’s possible to put a roof rack on a C6?

- Does this have the JBL system?

Any help would be marvellous, and maybe I’ll check in with a new car soon!!

That's very cheap for a low milage car...... If I didn't have 6 already I'd be having that

But to your questions:-front suspension is the same but obviously carrying a little less engine weight. Search on here for a mod to add greasing points to extend their life.

It does have hydro suspension but without active damping (AMVAR).

Display is set by the trim level and as this is an Exclusive with Sat Nav it has the larger display

One of the reasons for the cars being cheap is the lack of spares support. Consumables are available, but a lot of occasionally required parts are hard to come by and usually sourced from breakers. There are a number of people starting to come up with solutions for parts no longer available.

B pillar noise is a thing with wearing door seals but can be improved by adjusting the window alignment slightly.

The only 2.2 I've heard was in a C5 and yes it was noisy, different but no worse that a 2.7

Never seen one with a roof rack and not sure if you can!

As an Exclusive, it should have the JBL system fitted. Check for the logo on the rear shelf speakers.

Roof rack = yes, available for all C6.

That 2.2 appears a real bargain at that price.

Same engine as in the 'C Crosser' and it pulled well in that Outlander Clone

Thanks folks. For some reason I had it in my mind that the 2.2 was always the Lignange model, I didn't realise that it came in Exclusive trim. In that case I'll be familiar with everything on board.

I phoned the dealer and they said it was 'super' clean, no service history to speak of, but no errors showing on the dash and the previous MOTs look OK, no major concerns and minor advisories like corroded pipes as to be expected on a 2007 car.

I might go and have a look at it - but surely, there has to be something majorly wrong with it for £2k.

Peoples perceptions of High VED on the 2.7's applying to all C6's, running costs, parts etc. etc. and given there wasn't a great market for them when they were new, so they are missing a bargain.

Hell Ped,

Hadn't checked in to the forum recently as I was on annual leave. Did you buy the car as I see the ad is no longer available. On the lower ball/swivel joints the sealing arrangement was modified. We have a 2009 3.0HDi and have clocked approx. 70000km and the lower joints have not required any attention.

Best regards,

Phil C.

I phoned up and asked about the car- the chap I spoke to didn't know much except to confirm that there were no apparent errors on the screen and that it was exceptionally clean inside. I was planning to go and see it, but it sold in the meantime. To be honest it would have been a bit of a gamble and on reflection I'm not sure that I have the disposable income to run the car without worrying too much about fixing bits. I would have felt more secure if I knew a decent independent specialist in York but I couldn't find one (same story when I owned my 2.7 when we first moved here).

I wonder if the new owner will sign up here - I think the car's previous owner did in fact join as the reg is recognised on the 'C6 Register' database, but I'm not sure if that gives much in the way of information on the vehicle (not sure what 'Lexia Available to Members' means, or how one would access it).

Glad to hear the ball joints have been modified. No doubt I can take some credit for providing Citroen with user level feedback about the original design - just wish they could reimburse me for the time and expense of having them changed, 3 or 4 times.
