Hi guys, joined the forum back in may when I first got my C6, its a 2007 model 2.7 HDi V6 Exclusive with the lounge pack, loving the car and had no problems...until now !!
first problem i have just got and the most important one to get fixed is my engine management light has come on and I keep getting a warning on my display saying "Depollution system faulty", and when I go into the car diagnostics menu is says 1 alert log "engine anti-pollution system faulty" !

I took it to my local garage to plug into there diagnostics machine (only a snap-on generic tester) and the fault was
P0490 Exhaust Gas Recycling Electric Valve position 1 (rear) Electro valve blocked

Could anybody shed any light on this fault code please ? does it suggest a faulty EGR valve ? from what I have read they have 2 egr Valves and the 1 at the rear is an engine out jobie !! my fault code says rear ! please no !

Could anyone recommend any good independent specialist to trust on the C6 in or around the Manchester north west area ?

my other faults are only minor compared to this..
my radio and screen keep switching themselves off and then back on again whilst driving, when it does this my speedo changes to KMH instead of MPH ? seems to be getting more and more regular lately ??
and last but not least
sometimes my passenger windows stops working and it stays in the high position (ie, does not drop an inch when I open the passenger door) so when I close the door it catches the top of the door frame, sometimes it can stay like this for a few days then all of a sudden when I open the door it drops an inch and the window starts working again !!

sorry for all the questions on my first post !! I do log on quite regular and have a read but not needed to post until now as worried about my engine light ! car doesn't seem to be in limp mode or anything ?

thank you for your help

Gary

Hi Gary, I've had both front and rear EGR valves fail - 60k miles car serviced every 6 months with low SAP oil. The EGR valves were not blocked, rather the stepper motor failed in both cases although diagnostics said they were "blocked". Both valves have now been replaced by moi.

If you take it to an experienced specialist (eg BL Autos), the rear EGR valve can be done in around 4 hours. DIY, it will take twice that and you will need patience and special modified spanners and tooling - check out my recent posts and other posts singing the praises of BL Autos.

By the way, it you have healthy EGRs, they should make a loud clicking noise on engine switch off (raise bonnet, engine cover off, acoustic matts off, short length of wood etc). Lexia can be used to force the EGR valves open and shut and generally diagnose the issue.

Regards
G

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, mine has just turned 60k this week !!it has a full main dealer history but whether they use low SAP oil is another matter !!

bit worried from what i have read re the rear egr valve being a nightmare to do so was possibly looking into going down the route off blanking off the egr's, there's a guy on ebay selling the blanks and I know a guy who can do the ecu delete but if my fault isn't the egr itself then would rather not (if that makes sense !)

also just looked at the software version on my radio and it says 7.01.b-5, do you think the could be the reason for the radio turning itself off and on ?
thanks again

I think you are correct re software, I had this, but updated software solved it, there is a post somewhere re getting the new software, easy to install even for a non mechanic like me.

Gary,

I think you really need to get somebody to plug Lexia in, whilst generic code readers are good, they can be a bit hit and miss.......

as for the software issue, you should be able to get the latest firmware disc from the main dealer for about 10p

RT3 has the maps on a CD, inserted in the head unit, usually with a CD autochanger in the boot for music.

RT4 has the maps on the hard drive of the system, no CD autochanger & it has Jukebox function (record CDs to the hard drive.

Think mine must be the RT4 then as no cd changer in boot and no nav disc in headunit, although the headunit isn't playing discs !! when I put one in it try's to spin for a while then just switches to radio ?? but I also cant seem to find the jukebox function..

On another note, I had a look at the EGR valves today, took the metal pipes off that connect them to the inlet manifold, when switching the ignition on then off I can see the front one working in and out as it should but the rear one is not budging !! all power feeds are there so pretty sure its not electrical that's the issue, must be stuck inside (would be the rear one !)
tried freeing it off by spraying some egr cleaner in to soak but stuck solid !!

so, think I am going to blank them off, easy enough to make 2 blanking plates for where the gasket goes on the metal pipe to the egr..
think I will still then have to have the ecu done for egr delete ??

any thoughts on this please guys ??

also called my local Citroën dealership about the firmware update for radio and didn't have a clue what I was talking about ! great ! can anyone advise where to get the firmware upgrade done near Manchester ?

thanks Gary

Had the EGR delete done today, blanked them both off then had the ecu guy do the delete on the ecu, no more warning lights etc and feels a bit smoother to drive !
just the radio issue to sort out now which hopefully Norman can do for me..

IMO the blanking of the egr valves is a no no, you will be wasting more fuel and have no performance advantage.
Imo the the engine may also suffer in the long term as well as a shorter dpf life with the Def that is trying to break down the gases and particulate matter etc.

Have you notified your insurance company of the modification.

Most manufactures [ie not VW group petrol or diesel they cheat] have developed at great expence emission controls that reduce the NOx gas exposure that can other wise be most harmful to the young and elderly and the enviroment.

my passenger window has stoped working again ! and it stays in the high position (ie, does not drop an inch when I open/close the passenger door) so when I close the door it catches the top of the door frame, sometimes it can stay like this for a few days then all of a sudden when I open the door it drops an inch and the window starts working again !! but been like this over a week now ?
the window switch is working because at night when dark if I try the passenger window the lights on the switches on passenger door go out and then on again ??
