I ask because I have tried all sorts over the years including Meguires Xtreme but having a darker car this time (last one was silver) I wanted something that would have a great shine but not be a pain to apply.

Swissvax Onyx So I took a good look at what was on offer and bought a starter kit of Swissvax 'Onyx' at the Classic Motor Show for my C6 after trying the demonstration for myself.

Onyx is the entry level wax with 30% Brazilian Carnuba, but wasn't cheap. The 40% and 50% versions cost escalated dramatically and the 76% carnuba version 'Crystal Rock' costs £500 OMG!

Had my first chance today to try it out on my car and managed to get the bonnet, roof and boot done before rain stopped play again

But it was the easiest wax I have ever used by a Country Mile and a gives a great depth of shine with little physical effort which is just as well given the acre of paintwork on the C6!

I used the 'cleaner' first by simply wiping over and wiping off, zero residue. Then applied the wax, let it haze for 5 minutes and gently polished off as instructed and the car had a great shine, again zero reside anywhere.

Yes it was expensive, but looking at the wax I used, it will last a long time so will be cost effective and the time saving alone was worth the cost.

Just a shame I couldn't finish the car and get some pictures before the rain came

Take a look at the Swissvax site for yourselves.

Dave, I tried a test application of the Bilt Hamber AutoBalm polish on the bonnet. Very pleased with results. I bought their car kit which includes the clay bar, detergent, polishing pad etc. Very good products. Clay bar is fantastic at removing debris from the paint prior to polishing.

I also sprayed a little Ferrosol anti-corrosion water displacing fluid on the alloy suspension castings under the bonnet. They were gathering a large crop of white aluminium corrosion

Now looking for a good leather feed and cleaner for the plastic/vinyl etc.

Regards

G

Mine are doing the same so sounds like a good idea, where did you get it from?

Also motorbike type products for the same purpose - Scotoiler F365 and ACF50. Both leave an anti-corrosion film that is good for alloy components.

Dave, Ferrosol came from Bilt Hamber as well. You can buy from their website but best to telephone them and get some additional product information.

Thanks for the tip, Dave. I may give the Swissvax Oynx a try myself.

OK after a quick Google ordered a can from Elkparts in the UK

Arrived this morning 500ml can for £5.95 + postage - there based in Gatwick (RH11 0TG) so if you live in that area you could collect.

I managed to get GuardX on ebay which included a two part polish, windscreen water repelent and an anti mist product for inside windows.

The two part polish takes a lot of effort, first you have to remove all old polish then apply stage one and let this dry to a haze. Then apply stage two on top of stage one and leave for 15 minutes before polishing off. The end result looks very good and is supposed to last 5 years!!! It does feel extremely smooth and water just runs off leaving no marks.

Well as winter is fast approaching with all the salt they put on UK roads it was time for another coat of wax which wil be the 3rd the car has had in 12 months.

How does it look, well take a look below by clicking the image for a larger view.

The sun wasn't shining either today and it's still a big car to hand polish, but the Swissvax Onyx makes it easy.

Oh and I know the wheel arch liners are dirty but I'm not that obsessive

No I don't want to do it for a living

Just realised that the image has the car looking 'Blue' from that angle, when it is 'Iron Grey'

This link - Click Here - was posted on another forum, when we were talking about polishing your car with a rotary polisher, however, I thought it would good to share it.

Just spent the day polishing mine. Took aaaaaggges but was good fun and now it looks amazing. I'm off on holiday later tonight so its nice to have it all clean in the garage waiting for my return.

I used Autoglym polish (the black label one designed for dark colours - for some reason the polish is white so lots of flecks of dust in the gaps now - a good blast down the A404 will remove those)

Also I did the wheels with Autoglym Alloy wheel seal before applying tire cleaning foam.

Cheers

It looks smashing Ped. Please come and do mine. I did it once including claying and I was shocked at how long it takes on such a big car. I need to do it again as my three-year-old 'helped' me wash it last week and put tiny little scratches from a dirty cloth on one door.

Your wheels look brilliant
