Hi guys

I've got a fluid puddle forming under the drivers side front. The clear fluid feels slightly greasy and it's causing this noise when the car has been settled for a day or so, so it must be dripping onto a belt:

Citroen Slough have taken two attempts at fixing this, both times totally avoiding a solution. I've had:

Steering coolant pipe replaced
Drive belt replaced (049516)
PAS radiator
Timing side of engine dismantled and cleaned
water outlet tank replaced (052946)
'engine cover' replaced(?)

None of these have fixed the problem, but have successfully cost me over a grand in wasted work.

I've identified where the puddle forms, and I have indicated as best I can below. It's only small, but after my last visit to slough it's formed a puddle about the size of an orange on the garage floor.

I'm sure it's just a pipe or something, and would love to find out what the fluid could be. I'm thinking steering fluid, but not sure?

Please help, this is doing my head in.

I will try Forge in Cookham next, as I've given up with SLough now. Mainly because you can't speak to the mechanic.

I'm wondering if it could be:

1. Water pooling when you top up the washers?
2. Washer fluid from a split/leaking pipe?
3. Condensation from the Air Con?
4. Crack in the washer bottle?

Hi Trainman

It definitely feels 'greasy' and I can't see any leaks in the washer bottle. I think it's slightly to the right of the filler pipe for the washer bottle; there's a pipe going downwards that looks a bit leaky...

Hey,

If it's watery I agree w Trainman, but if it's oily, it must be LDS and I suspect a suspension and steering pipe.

Good luck sorting,
Sam

The only other thing I can think off in that area would be the dreaded "jubilee" clip on the return pipe, but I would expect to see LDS on the under tray as well....

Thanks for the input so far.

The problem is that it's such a small leak I just hope a garage will be able to identify it. As the noise only happens after the car has been standing still for 12 hours ish it further complicates the issue for a good diagnosis.

I'll call Forge tomorrow. I think I'll also call Slough and let them know they've failed me again. Probably no point but it'll make me feel better.

Check the LDS reservoir. That was the cause of my leak, there was a split in it.

Just got round to playing the sound bite, I'm fairly confident it's an LDS issue. Have a look under the front off side, between the wheel and the front of the car, see if there is any of the same type of fluid on the under tray.

Sounds like an lds leak, either from the tank or many pipe unions. check the tank by removing the offside wheel and cover, the drain from the tank is visible and leaking fluid will show. Remove front undertray and check the pipes that run around the crash struts. The C clips often leak and are best replaced with terry clips. Check lds level with car on low setting

Thanks guys. I don't have the kit to do this myself unfortunately. Hope this isn't going to be expensive.

If Ray at Forge sees this thread it won't be expensive (!!)

If you're not up to removing parts, take a drive to B&H at Welwyn Garden City, they will sort you out. Was there on Friday to discuss my high pressure pump. They are Citroën specialists and worth a trip round the M25. Quite a few members of this forum have availed themselves of B&How expertise. I have no connection with them

I'm curious... What did they have to say about your HP pump?!?

Cheers,
Sam

they checked out part nos and indeed it has separate part no to the C5 and also there is a revised part no. indicating that the pump has been modified, the modified pump also requires a different pipe assembly at the cost of around £77.
they suggest that is the motor not the pump that may be the cause, I have read on other forums of problems with dust and worn brushes. doing a diagnostic check may show up some faults, but I have decided to leave alone to see what may fail and start filling my piggy bank.

Yes, the original pump code was 5277G2 for the configurable version and 5277G3 for the factory configured one, but it was replaced with 5277L7 and indeed, it also requires the 5270WF pipe - that's exactly what I'm replacing on mine

Hopefully, you won't have to.

Cheers,
Sam

PS: I'm of the same philosophy - I never fix my car unless it's broken - if I can still drive it and it drives ok, I won't fix it (apart from regular maintenace of course), but when something fails, I always try to fix in the best way possible - use high quality OEM parts & stuff like that...
