Hello

I am based in Mid Cornwall and have no direct experience of C6's. Possibly about to buy my first.

However, previously passionate about XM's having owned 2 in my time.

Now hankering after a C6.

Is there anyone in Cornwall who would let me have a look at their car or failing this can anyone suggest things to look for when viewing to buy.
The example I am considering is a 2009 59 CITROEN C6 2.7 V6 HDI EXCLUSIVE 205 BHP TIP/AUTO.

Thanks

Martin

I've had 2 C6's over the last 10 years. My main advice to you is to only buy one if you have a good independent Citroen or C6 specialist within a reasonable distance from you. I bought my first C6 from a Citroen dealer and although it came with a warranty, whenever I took it to Citroen dealers to sort things out, it was like the first time they had seen one. Had all sorts of issues and they sometimes made things worse. Then I found BL Autos in Welwyn Garden City and all my problems came to an end. They are not cheap cars to run and maintain but at least BL Autos knew exactly what needed doing and could do it. I think there are quite a few good independent Citroen garages around the country but if you are not near one, I would think twice about buying one. I know there is a good one in the Bristol area but this may be too far. They are lovely cars - good luck.

Hi Martin. I hope the following information is helpful to you and anyone thinking of buying a 2008/9 C6.

My November 2008 C6 (2.7 HDI) is nearly 15.5 years old now and I’ve had it for nearly 14 years (92000 miles). I’ve kept a record of all repairs and servicing. I have always serviced the car myself because it is very easy and my annual service costs well under £100 covering all items in the service schedule with top quality oil, etc.

Few repairs were needed for the first 10 years of the car’s life (total repair bill £1790). But over the last 5.5 years it has needed a new suspension pump (£2000 at main dealer), front suspension overhaul (£1590 at local Citroen specialist), new thermostat housing and heater pipe (both known faults, £907 at local MOTEST garage), both turbos removed and overhauled (£1320 at local turbo specialist), new front spheres (£300 fitted by me). Plus new cam belt/water pump/diesel pump service (£770 at KwikFit).

Total repairs cost over 5.5 years about £7000, about £1300 a year.

This sounds like a lot but I’ve done the costing comparing continuing to run the C6 against replacing it with a 2-year old Citroen C5 petrol. On an 8-year forward projection, it would cost me an additional £11000 to run the C5 compared with the C6, assuming no repairs on the C5 and £1300 a year on the C6. This takes into account all costs including the horrible car tax on the C6, fuel economy, etc. The killer for the C5 is, of course, depreciation and the loss of interest on the £20000 purchase price coming from my savings account.

The C6 is a fabulous car to drive and I will keep it until it finally gives up the ghost. We now use it mainly for longish drives and have a little C1 for the day to day stuff. Will the C6 last another 8 years? I don't see why not as it is kept in a garage (no sign of corrosion), used regularly with less than 4000 a year mileage. Who knows, it might even be worth more in a few years time as there are so few still on the road?!

Petrol versions are on the rise in Europe already

My car has been in the family from new its 2008 petrol with 140k km on the clock, I don't really have any numbers crunched but biggest repairs have been over the years: LDS radiator cracked in the first years, possibly because car was parked in the snow for a long time, new(used 250€ from a breaker) hydraulic pump ~6-7 years ago, VVT solenoid pumped all of the oil out of the engine one time ~5 years ago, needed replacing. The whole undercarriage of the car was refurbished(bushings etc) 4 years ago. This summer display started acting up, refurbishing is possible and it was 150€ and engine splash shield was replaced, that was 400€ OEM

Since there is no car tax currently in Estonia, I'd say it has cost 500€ per year max to maintain over the years. Cannot really complain

edit// I'd also add that it WILL become more and more expensive eventually, like with any old car
