Hi again folks, With mega thanks to Mike for the set of cables. However, to get the cables fitted the module needs to stay in service mode. Mine won't. Any advice on how to get it to stay there would be very much appreciated! Once the brake is sorted I'll be listing my C6 for sale so I can replace it with something less temperamental and more practical, by the way. It will be priced to sell, so keep an eye out if you're in the market for a 2.7HDi Executive with the lounge pack. |

That's a strange one! What diagnostic tool are the garage using? I guess the only other way will be to remove the unit, open the lid and do it manually. What makes you thing the C6 is temperamental |

Actually, thinking about it, you might get away with just disconnecting the unit connector and sliding the mechanism to each side to attach the cables. Attach the one without the threaded section first.

Thanks! I've suggested this to the garage - they have a few diagnostic tools they could use, apparently, so they're gonna try the alternatives. They aren't keen to do it manually in case they manage to break the module in the process and create an even bigger problem. Why why why did Citroen think this was a good system when a good old fashioned manual handbrake had done the job just fine for decades previously? |

The parking brake is also the emergency braking system. Maybe with some electronic inbuilt service to help adjusting brake force ? And it is prepared for automatic function.

It just gets better -having fitted the new cables they now think there's a problem with the module itself. Anyone got a spare...? |

That would work out extremely usefully, in that case...! Fingers crossed there's one on the pile. How much would you want for it if you had it?

Sounds like a typical depressing saga when a garage gets involved. Before condemning anything, I would be a little suspicious of their diagnostic prowess from your description. The manual says the cables need to be adjusted using the diagnostic tool after replacement and from my experience with a C5 we have that appears to share the system, this is quite an important step to get a good result. As it happens, never had any issues with the handbrake on my C6, but then again, it only gets used once a year, at the MOT. On the C5 we came across two other issues --- knackered bushes where the cable attaches to the arm and perhaps a little more tricky -- following the fitment of new pads we absolutely couldn't get one side to adjust up. In the end, discovered we had wound the piston in too far, such that the handbrake lever was having no effect. Don't know if eiher might apply to the C6 as I think they are a different make of caliper, but just something to bear in mind. Mike. |

Be careful with modules from other cars, I believe that they are coded and even Citroen themselves are not able to recode. When my handbrakes went, I tried the secondhand route and didn't work. So I had to stump up a new unit and had to have it coded by Citroen. Are you not able to communicate with the module in it's current condition? I don't know a local specialist to yourself, but I hope the unit could be reset |

They are configured to the car e.g. auto or manual and if you had trouble with a used unit it was because of something else. |

Mega thanks to MGMike for his time and help at the weekend! Looks like the C6 needs either a new handbrake module or a repair to the existing one. Car is now listed in the for sale section, so if you're interested please do drop me a line - will consider a swap for an estate as well as a sale. |
