Any thought's, ideas, clues as to what is going on? |

First thing I would check would be the battery voltage and condition, any earthing points you can see and then a look at the state of the pins on the ECU itself. Mike. |

Hello fellow petrol owner. Mine ran a bit funny then cut out and wouldn't restart. I am not sure if it is relevant to your posted codes, but my petrol pump had died. It wasn't too hard a job to replace it. | ||

Well, I've finally sused it, The B-S-M had gone slightly high resisdence, just enough to drop the voltage down to below the various relays pull-in. My advice to anyone with my same issues is to measure the voltage at the fuel pump fuse (F5 on engine fuse box) If it's 10v or less but the battery is 12v+ then you need to either replace it or, if your good with a soldering iron repair it. I took option 1 sourced a replacement on ebay for £130ish & all's well now other than a pong of petrol when starting from cold, mapping perhaps although the replacement was exactly the same numbers. Any thoughts. |

OK -- you can laugh at me, but what does BSM stand for ? I'm guessing it's perhaps the piece that sits on top of the battery ? If so, there seem to be quite a few bits and pieces to it --- what part exactly goes high resistance ? Mike. |

Ah -- that bit ! Interesting that a used one was plug and play. I obtained a new one for a Pug 206 I had and that was a no go without programming it in. Converesely, fitted a brand new one to a C5 X7 we have in the family and that was plug and play. Mike. |

Not the same. BSM = Body Supply Module. The bit with all the fuses and relays under teh bonnet. This is plug and play a BSI isn't. |

Just when I thought I'd got the hang of it ! So -- having looked at the parts list, the bit under the bonnet within the box on the LH side is actually described as the 'engine fuse box', but then the cooling air pipe fitted later on to that box is described as the 'BSM ventilation pipe'. Wouldn't it be great if they managed to be consistent in their own terminology, at least within the same page on the parts list. I guess then that the unit they describe as 'electronic box MUX' that lives under the dash is the BSI, particularly as later on the same page they refer to the 'BSI support'. On the topic, worth noting there are at least six different part numbers for this BSI, so a potential can of worms if replacement required as the car gets older. Also an interesting point -- can a second hand unit be re-programmed to match another car ? Mike. |
