Hi All

I'm not planning on doing it today or tomorrow, in fact, I wouldn't do it until I was back in the country, I'm currently resident in Ireland but attempting to plan a return!

Has anyone ever considered it or actually imported from Japan?

I think I've seen a few for sale over the years stating that that particular car for sale was a Jap import, but obviously you can't wait on that.

The main reason for me to consider this, is that I much prefer a petrol, which seems to be the majority of stock there. In addition, some cars available in Japan look quite spectacular, super low miles and very well kept, for all of the reasons we know about Japans roads and peculiarities of its car market.

Of course one has to be very careful and there are a number of pitfalls that need to be navigated, but as long as one is ready for the total costs, I feel this is a really great option.

I'd love to hear others thoughts.

Best from Ireland - Justin

87 Safari currently languishing in my garage.

I've imported several cars from Japan including BMWs, Mercedes, a Bentley and a 2007 C6. As long as you get a Grade 4 car you're likely to have a good experience importing from Japan. Lots of low mileage cars in very good condition. I've used an outfit called japancardirect.com to arrange the buying and shipping.

Thanks very much Stirling and happy to hear it is a viable option for a C6. Sadly I can't do it until I'm back in the UK, I happened to see one in an unusual colour combo with around 16k miles, so basically new, I'd love to just phone them and say 'put it on a boat' . As you didn't mention anything, would I be right in thinking they run as if they were a UK car, with no mods required and can you just put a UK disk in for the nav? I had a Nissan Stagea a few years back, and for some reason Japan don't put rear fogs on, so you have to get that done over here for MOT, quite tricky to do it nicely!

Thanks for the company recommendation, rings a bell. Hope all your cars are running well, that's the only thing that does cause me pause before buying another C6.

Cheers - Justin

I can't speak to UK regulations as I'm in Canada. Here anything older than 15 years old can pretty well be plated as long as it is mechanically fit and has daytime running lights.

Interestingly, of all the cars I've bought in Japan, my C6 has been the most expensive relative to other markets. Usually cars are quite a bit cheaper in Japan than you can buy them elsewhere. I would say the C6 market isn't like that, at least my LHD car wasn't. Used cars in the UK are cheap compared to a lot of places.

Yes I noticed the higher prices of C6's in Japan, it's immediately noticeable. There are a few bargains, but at that level, you may as well just buy one at home; I just hate diesels, and the UK is full of S1 2.7's. I think the C6 came out at the height of the UK govt. saying buy diesel, it's better - shame!!!

Here's the one I saw, I'll never be in time to buy it though - Click Here - I had a Storm & Black before, so just love this very light and pretty combo .

You're very lucky, as you could import from France and get the desirable S2 3L diesel, lots to choose from. I've owned 2 LHD's, but I'd rather not, just for convenience. So, we shall see.

Thank again from over here.

Nice to hear from you Shaun, hope all's well.

God I'd love to, but living in Ireland at the moment, and importing to here, especially a larger engined car, is not on the cards at mo. My CX Safari is here with me, but not reg'd yet & I might not bother (it's complicated). I'm way, way out west too, so haven't a clue who'd be qualified to look after a C6. It will have to wait til I'm back, hate being patient. If I am brave enough to do another, I'm prepared to pay quite a bit for a super good one, that's why I was thinking of Japan, some unusual cars out there seem to get treated like royalty, that's just what I want .

Cheers - Justin
