About the car

Registered new on 27 March 2007 by Bryan Brothers, Citroën dealers in Bristol, this example has had only one owner from new. There is colossal history file for this cherished Citroën full of invoices and specialist receipts for maintenance work and repairs amounting to tens of thousands of pounds.

The model is C6 Exclusive Auto 2,946cc petrol. According to howmanyleft.co.uk there are as few as 28 examples of this variant remaining in the UK.

The registration number TK07DAN is an obscure cherished number plate was in reference to Tony Kay / year of registration / DANLERS. DANLERS is a Kay family company of which Tony was Executive Chairman. As this was the original registration number of the car, it will remain with the vehicle.

The car is finished in “admiral blue” with a wadabis (beige leather) interior. Its condition is commensurate with its age and mileage, although the exterior benefited from a major bodywork refurbishment in 2021. There is damage to the front nearside window where someone appears to have forced closed the door, unaware of the C6’s unique window closing feature.

The vehicle is untaxed since 29 January 2022, its MOT expired on 23 January 2022, and it and has not been driven since 2021. The V5 document is still in the name of the original owner.

Location: North Wiltshire
Original mileage: 178,000

Background

Tony Kay was a prominent Wiltshire businessman who was involved in politics, charity work and local government. He had originally seen the very futuristic Citroën DS whilst he was a student at Manchester University in 1955. He bought his first Citroën (an ID19 registration WWC201) in the late 1960s, and this was to be his marque of choice for well over fifty years. He bought the new GS, CX, XM and C6 models immediately after they were launched in the UK.

He even encouraged other family members to own them (including Visas, AXs, BXs, Saxos and C3s), and there have been over twenty Citroëns in the Kay family. For Tony’s 80th birthday celebration in 2015, the family arranged for him to be transported in a classic Citroën DS.

Tony bought his Citroën C6 shortly after it was launched in the UK and he never replaced it. After almost constant use for 13 years, he did not really drive it again after self-isolating against Covid-19 in March 2020. He passed away in January 2022 after a lifelong fondness for Citroën cars.

The Kay family would now like Tony’s Citroën C6 to go to a new home, either as a restoration project or to contribute towards saving the few C6 models remaining in the UK.

Viewing is recommended. All sensible offers will be considered.

Hi TK07DAN,

It's good to hear this C6 still exists and it was with your father since new.
I saw the C6 when he bought first it, as I came to the family home and bought his previous car, the silver XM V6. The XM stayed with me for a while, then a friend/Citroen enthusiast had it for several years before passing to another Citroen Car Club member. I'm sure the C6 will stay within enthusiast circles.
Best wishes with the sale,
Shaun.

Thank you for your kind words Shaun. It is good to know that Citroën XM (R208HKV) gave more pleasure after Tony sold it to you. I also know that a much earlier Citroën CX (D200NOM) owned by Tony between 1986 and 1989 also made later appearances at car shows, having been lovingly restored and maintained by an enthusiast. Both R208HKV and D200NOM are currently on SORNs.
