Hello All, I've been reading through this nice PDF here: " SUMMARY : VEHICLE C6 - EVOLUTIONS IN YEAR 2009 (COMMERCIAL LAUNCH - DT20C 3.0 HDI ENGINE WITH PARTICLE FILTER)" Very useful information, I must admit, but... all those changes and alterations... do they make it a completely new engine? Reliable? Is it any good? I'm looking for a diesel myself, but after hearing all those 2.7 HDi horror stories... |

Yes, for example, problems with the camshafts. The designers 'slimming' engine led to "anorexia" crankshaft which often breaks and also likes to knock out or rotate the pan rod. World record weight class (only 202 kg) cost engineers design flaw that nobody does not speak loudly. | ||

You talk about horror stories... The thing is, people only tend to join forums to rant and rave about their broken cars. The number of these engines produced must be massive, the C5, C6, 407 (Coupe, Saloon and Estate), 607 in Europe I believe, Land Rover in the Range Rover Sport and Discovery 3, and Jaguar in the S Type and XJ. The number of units that have failed versus the number of units that have been produced must be tiny. David. |

After 90.000 km my 3.0 engine is still perfect, never had a problem. Extremely low fuel consumption and good power. Better accelleration now than 3 years ago, but that is gearbox adaption. And they fixed some of the 2.7 problems as well (alternator clutch is one example, probably the injection/particle filter/turbo systems are better also) | ||

Kalotech, Never heard of the camshaft problem. I would hold David's view that the 2.7 engine is very robust. The coolant tank outlet tank is the big threat to the engine coupled with no low coolant level warning. Sadly some owners have been the innocent victims of this, while others of us have had lucky escapes. Long term the 32000km (20000 mile) oil change schedule may also cause problems on higher mileage units, that's why I keep to the 16000km (10000 mile) interim frequency. I was even advised by a Citroen independent to do this, as he could see the extended oil change frequency catching up on C5's. I now see what C6Dave means about the 3.0Hdi. It is a lovely engine. The Bosch injection makes it much quieter and the max torque at the lower 1600rpm really makes the driving experience different. However, it still has the dreaded coolant outlet tank and no coolant level warning. But you're in LHD territory where 3.0Hdi are numerically stronger so go for it if you can! Best regards, Phil C. |

OK, found one, bought one and very happy with it I intend to keep it till the end (its or mine), so... Since they don't make them any more... Do you think it might be a good idea to buy another one just for spares? |

If you can find one cheaply then for the engine/gearbox/body panels and glass it may be worthwhile as new parts sometimes take a long time to arrive via Citroen and you would be off the road.... |

The biggest difference between the 2.7 and the 3.0 is the 2.7 is abundant and the 3.0 is rare as hens teeth. I have a 2.7 and I'm totally satisfied with it. | ||

The man was actually very happy, because he just hated poor dealer service. Apparently he had to wait nearly 2 months for some hydro-related part and then again 3 months for another. That was too much for him. So, you see, my initial worries remain, because Citroen can't take care of its customers in a proper way. |

2007 C6 2.7D Lignage spec being traded at Yeomans Garage(Citroen) Exeter. Car in good condition Arctic silver with black leather interior, 49,000 miles newish battery, good tyres, MOT to Sept 2016.
