Well, the C6 was collected from BL Auto's by the gearbox specialist today. They advised that they were very busy so it could be a few weeks before the car is done so it's just a waiting game now. I've been persevering with flushing the gearbox on the 407 this week. I've flushed the gearbox with 30 litres of JWS3324 now. 3 litres out, 3 litres in, run the car on the ramp whilst going in and out of all the gears. It's tedious but it seems to be working. Before I did the last 2 flushes today I had the car out for a run. I did 5 miles, then a fluid change, then 15 miles, and another fluid change and when I got back tonight I dropped out the final 3 litres and poured in the last 3 litres from my 20 litre drum. The consistency of what is coming out of the sump is the same as what's going into the filler, the smell is also the same but it's still not the same colour as what I'm putting in. The good news is the car seems to be changing gear nicely. However, I've been told that something in antifreeze attacks the seals in the gearbox so I'm now at a bit of a crossroad. Do I give up and just assume the box needs to be rebuilt, or do I order another 20 litres and keep flushing? Part of me thinks I should keep going as I caught the fault on the 407 fairly quickly and a massive part of me doesn't want t give up on the car... However, part of me also thinks that I'm £150 in on gear oil now, another 20 litre drum is going to make that £250 in... It really is a case of my heart and my head fighting with each other at the moment. David. |

Interesting story...I saw the car at BL Autos when mine went in for some work. Nice dual exhaust - wish my car had that Do petrol cars have the oil cooler too? If so, I will ask BL to inspect the system next time my car goes in for a service. cheers |

Was yours the silver C6 sitting in the workshop? If so, I saw it in the distance when I was there. It looked a nice car. I didn't want to be cheeky and wander up to it though Yea, the exhausts and mirrors on the 3.0 HDi's really finish it off. I think the petrol C6's have the same oil cooler but ServiceBox is down at the moment so I can't be sure. Unfortunately, there's very little to inspect as the one we removed from my car looked brand new but had a hole in it allowing it to mix the fluids. David. |

I had a look earlier on and yes it appears to have the same cooler but agree there would be very little to inspect. |

We've heard from the gearbox place... the car should be ready for late next week I've not been chasing and have left them to it as I'd rather it was done when they can do it rather then trying to hurry things along. Must admit, I'm looking forward to getting it back though David. |

Meh... I'm braced for the bill... Citroen are driving me more nuts at the moment... £200 for an A4 sheet of paper... and the only way I can pay them for it is to fill all of my credit card details out on a form on an A4 sheet of paper and post it to them... |

The C6 has returned from having it's gearbox rebuilt! It's currently at BL awaiting collection. Apparently it's driving perfectly now though which is great David. |

Well, the gearbox is rebuilt and the car is home We had a lovely journey back in it today from Cheshire. I took the 2.7 to Lymm where we met Shaun and Robert, swapped cars and then went our own separate ways The gearbox rebuild has worked a treat, you can't even feel it changing gear. The 3.0 is much quieter then the 2.7 too, you barely even hear the engine revs, the only way to really tell if it's changing gear is to check the rpm's on the dash. Got a few little jobs to do to get it to where I'm happy with it. I've ordered new side repeaters, the buttons on one of the keys are scruffy so I've ordered a key case, and if I can get it past 'er indoors I want the wheels refurbishing too. On the way home from Lymm I met with Steve briefly too as I had some bits and pieces to hand over to him. We were in a Sainsbury's car park in Bamber Bridge where someone said "Is this an owners club meet? You never see one, let alone two!" |

I've been doing little bits and pieces to the C6 since it arrived home. I've obtained the Certificate of Conformity from Citroen, I then obtained the Certificate of Mutual Recognition from the Vehicle Certification Agency, and the DVLA have approved all of the paperwork for the V5. I should have a number plate assigned to it on Monday or Tuesday and a logbook in the post not much after the end of the week. They're giving me an age related plate so it'll be on a 12 plate The side repeaters have been changed as there was no silver left on them. The pillar trims on the car were absolutely disgusting. I've been doing a bit of searching for the right fabric and seem to have come up trumps with the fabric from a company called Woolies in Peterborough thanks to a suggestion from a fellow forum member! I've spoken to a local trimmer who has agreed to recover them for me if I supply the material as the stuff he has isn't a close enough match. The car is now on the ramp in the workshop ready to have the timing belt replaced. I'm hoping to get this done tomorrow. Today I started by giving everything a quick clean up. The brake discs on the car are brand new but there was a bit of surface corrosion appearing on the bell of the disc so I ended up painting the calipers and bells discs too. Hopefully tomorrow will see the timing belt done. The car is currently wearing 2 spare wheels as I've taken all 4 of the alloys off to get them refurbished as they're a mess. After that, the only thing I want to get done is a full paint correction and a decent wax sealant on the paintwork. David. |

Great work David, it will look like a new C6 in know time at all. Just wondering what paint and brand you were using on the caliper repaint? Looks good. Best regards 321dave |

Dave, I used silver Hammerite. I've used it on callipers before and never really had an issue with it. I don't tend to be heavy on the brakes so the callipers shouldn't get that hot. Have started the strip down for the timing belt today. Last night I decided I wasn't brave enough to use tip-ex for the crank so I ordered a tool to pin it. Today I decided I didn't fancy jacking the engine on the thin steel sump either so I made a bracket to use instead of the Citroen tool to support the engine from the top. After that I stripped it down, I've just got to take the engine mount and timing covers off now. So far it doesn't seem to be that bad a job. David. |

Well, I'm making progress with my C6... The wheels are back from being refurbished and I've spent this afternoon ceramic coating them. The centre caps have been cleaned and ceramic coated as well. And the car is stripped ready for the timing belt to be changed. I decided I wasn't taking a risk on not pinning the crankshaft so I ordered a tool for £16 off eBay. Irritatingly, it's a week since I ordered it and it's still not arrived. If it doesn't arrive tomorrow I'm going to make my own. I've also ordered a gallon of degreaser as the mess from the ATF in the cooling system is everywhere. It'll be nice not to get filthy when putting it all back together. The pillar trims are in for a refurb at the moment too. I'm hoping to get them back this week and get them on the car as well. David. |
