Hi,
rather than post two threads I thought I'd do it in one.
I have just bought a 2007 C6 with 220,000km that had been in a shed the last two years. Last time it was taxed was in November 2015.
I have worked through all sorts of minor problems from TPMS valve leaking to parking sensors, glow plugs, tyres, full service, really good clean etc.
The reason it was in the shed was due to the thump going from 2nd to 3rd.

It failed the NCT ( like MOT) on rear droplink, front inner tie rod, no bumpstops and a leaking front suspension cylinder on right hand side.

It appears that C5 suspension cylinders will work - but can anybody please confirm and also confirm if there is a difference between 4 cyl and 6 cyl units as mine is a 6.

I thought I had it resolved by opening the valve cover and adjusting one solenoid to compensate for the slow release of the solenoid. All good for about a week.

Yesterday I found it wanting to pull as if in a manual car you forgot to push the clutch in as you came to a stop. The obvious thing is to change the valve body but I think that the problem relates to the TCC solenoid (torque converter) and I was thinking of taking that solenoid out, perhaps cleaning it and releasing the pressure on the adjuster by about 1 full turn. Is this a good idea or am I on a hiding to nothing. If so I will just buy the valve body- I have found one in Germany for around 600 Euro which seems reasonable. Anybody got a better idea of source.

Sorry for so many queries all at once but I am trying to get this car running nicely for a daily driver and on the other hand I need to keep the repairs cost down.

Many thanks,

The front suspension cylinders are different for the V6 engines compared to the 2.2HDi 4 cylinder engine, due to the AMVAR, variable damping system on V6 cars.
C5 units aren't the same as the C6

Hello Richard,

The general consensus is that the transmission is strong in relation to internals, clutches etc. The problem as you find is the valve block and generally down to the 'sealed for life' transmission fluid recommended maintenance. In practice, they need to be flushed on a regular basis (plenty to read in the forum). I know GMerry posted a link to an excellent article on the valve block issues written by an American transmission repair specialist company. If I remember correctly the main issue is contaminants in the oil scoring the valve bores causing them to stick. My vote would be to replace the valve block. The price you quote sounds correct. At least you already know that the transmission does work smoothly when it gets a chance and is not a permanent internal fault.

Best regards,

Phil C.

Hi lads,
sorry for delay in replying.

I have been doing everything I can to avoid spending real money on this and even took the TCC solenoid out last night and cleaned it. No difference.
The company in Germany started to ignore my mails so clearly they didn't want to supply to a non trade buyer or they hadn't got the part.
So I ordered from ebay and decided to chance my arm with one from Hong Kong. I hope to get it late next week and fit it then.

Apart from that the car is driving well and once I fix the balljoint and leaky strut it should be good for the NCT.

thanks again,
