Morning guys, After my first 5000 trouble free miles in the first couple of months ownership, the dreaded "suspension faulty" message has popped up. The rear end on the car has gone very hard, and raised to what looks like the highest setting. (obviously un-driveable like that) The front does just as it should, but even when selection 'low' height, the rear still sits very high. The car has a massive (£20k+) main-dealer service history, and had only just had £3000 spent on it's 10 year service, prior to my purchase. Any pointers guys? and anything can be done without reverting to main dealer (car in Lincoln currently)2.7hdi Exclusive (2007) Cheers Steve |

Could be the height sensor linkages have seized, snapped or become detached from the sensors. There are four sensors, one for each wheel, the linkage is about 5cm long with a cup on each end which presses onto a ball on a bracket at one end and the sensor at the other end. It's common for them to get rusty, if not greased occasionally. Usual warnings about being careful if you are going under the car, make sure it's supported properly. |

The C6 height sensors are electronic rheostats, where as the Xantia is a hydraulic unit. On one of my C6 the front linkage snapped as the ball had rusted into the cup, front end dropped down and didn't respond to a request to change height. |

Thanks for the response guys... Been away for a few days, but will have a look over the weekend hopefully! (Its back into the Audi A6 tdi workhorse for a few days now) Interestingly, I've just had both front tyres replaced. Don't suppose fiddling with something on the front will affect the rear? I've known the brackets that hold the height sensor to get bent when work is carried out on front suspension, so, feasible a tyre fitter could have accidentally knocked or moved the bracket when changing a tyre. This should affect the front ride heights, but lowering at the front could make the rear seem higher. Just a theory. The ride heights only need to be a tiny bit different to the correct level to affect the ride quality, I.e. Suspension gets much stiffer. Good luck getting it sorted. |

If the front tyres were changed "with all wheels hanging", the rear system may have ben forced out of its comfort zone, jammed and then snapped ? | ||

Im back in the Audi A6 for now and haven't had chance to investigate the rear 'jack up' yet. Fingers crossed it isn't anything too costly... |

Just a quick update guys, it was one of the rear sensors that had 'popped-out' of the ball joint. cleaned it up, and pressed back on, and all is well with the world again... |
