Jacking car up

 On previous Citroens when you wanted to life the car you simply put car on high, placed adjustable stand under jacking point set car on low and "Vwala" the side of the car with the stand was clear of the ground. Now my C6 at present does not have a jack and reading posts you should not use say a trolley jack under cross member etc. I have also seen post about taking top of hydraulic fluid etc. is there a safe was to lift car using trolley jack? What should you tell tell MOT garage about lifting?

 The latter point is related to my thread about all four wheels being off the ground!
