I have recently bought a C6 with possible engine running issues. When the car arrived I put a new battery on it, it would turn over but not start. The next day it wouldn't even turn over. I can here a click noise from the main relay but nothing from the starter motor. I have lexia but it does not show any errors relating to engine starting, however there is a fault on start/stop module. Any ideas are welcome as I love this C6 and I would enjoy driving it! |

Hi Cirrus, what was the reason you decided to buy a new battery? When you purchased the car was it running at that stage? I had initial problems when I purchased my C6, but the forum was a great help to get sorted. Very important to buy a big strong battery for the C6. One with strong cold cranking. Also make sure the alternator is working ok. Stop/start if I'm correct is for the 3.0hdi model introducted after 2009 on. I'm guessing your C6 is a 3.0? If so the battery might not be getting charged. With so much electric equipment on board the C6, the battery won't last long or be strong enough to start the car unless it's in fairly top condition from my own experience anyway. |

Please be a bit more specific about your "C6", cloudman; ie: which engine is under the bonnet and what model-year is the car? I guess E3Steve is asking if there is 2.7HDi diesel under the bonnet. In which case, one of the starter motor bearings wears and jams the starter, stopping it working. E3Steve and others have posts on how to procure and fit a new starter motor, over to them On the 3.0HDi, I'm thinking that there is no Start Stop (bad idea anyhow for this type of car) - I'm sure one of the owners will confirm. Thanks everyone for replying. I am sorry I should have been more specific. My C6 has a 2.7 HDI engine manufactured in 2007 but registered in 2009!. When I bought the car the seller said that I need to replace the battery. I had a 71ah new battery which I am using whilst waiting for a big 95ah to arrive. At first it was turning over strongly (starter motor had no issues) but not starting (my guess was on immobilizer), but next day it was just a click, I recharged the new battery fully just in case it was drained, but made no difference. I have Lexia and checked all main relay operations which were fine. The click I hear when trying to start is the main relay and not starter motor solenoid. It seems that there is no power to starter motor at all. I have followed all the superstitious procedures in connecting a new battery (manual says after reconnecting the battery, switch on and wait for one minute before starting), but I think when I left the car disconnected overnight to recharge the battery some settings must have got lost, but cannot find what it is or how to set it up in Lexia/Diagbox. My next move is to remove the fuse box to get to the starter motor connections to see if there is power going into it. I am not sure it this C6 has start/stop function but there is certainly a module with that name and it has faults recorded. |

There is no start-stop on the 2.7HDi. Lexia won't directly help you, but it does sound very much like a dud starter motor. Have you found the relevant posts. regards |

I can confirm, C6 3.0HDi doesn't have stop/start, no C6 were fitted with this system. If you need the help of a garage; In Hitchin you have Chevronics, a Citroen specialist, the owner has a C6. You're also very close to B.L.Autos in Welwyn Garden City, they work on lots of C6. Good luck getting your car fixed. |

how about something simple like connection issues ... ie: once when we tried with a new battery, before we actually installed it, we did a quick connection & didn't properly tighten the connectors onto the battery - it couldn't sustain the current, and so just a click ... ... ?? | ||

Thank you cirrus; information is key... The 2.7 Ford 'Lion' HDi engine has a Denso starter motor, which is fast-becoming as notorious as PSA's use of plastic cooling system components! Connecting a good battery at the underbonnet jumper points will, in fact, overcome a poor connection at the battery in the boot, as the positive jumper post goes straight to the starter motor and then hops aft to the main positive busbar in the boot. A 70-odd Ah battery would be sufficient under normal conditions, depending on its CCA (Cranking Current Amps); a 95-100Ah is spec'd simply because the C6 is quite power-hungry when quiescent. Mine will do about four to six weeks, then it won't crank because the battery is pretty much exhausted for the purpose of starting her up, although it will unlock and unfold the door mirrors. I have a now-2½-year-old Varta Silver 100Ah (five-year guarantee). If your car was closer to me I'd offer to make the incursion for you and check that voltage is present at the starter solenoid trigger (coil +ve) stud before condemning your starter itself. This should be the first-and-foremost diagnostic test. - Click Here - for a good, new and reasonably-priced replacement unit. |
