Hi, Happy New Year to all. I've had my C6 for approaching 12 months so the MOT is due next month. I've not been through a test with a suspension set up like this before. I'm aware of the jacking procedures regarding LDS tanks for changing wheels etc but not for what's involved in the MOT itself. If anyone has any tips / must do's then I'd like to hear them, engine on or off, keys in or out etc etc. The reason I'm asking is the MOT will be done by my 'local' garage with no real specialist skills other than being one of the best, most accommodating and honest garages that I've had the pleasure of using. Hi Dan. I've not taken mine for an MOT yet, but have been many times with C5s and when the tester logs the car in for the test, the system prints off a detailed list of actions to observe regarding the suspension, handbrake etc. You will certainly be leaving the key in it as the test procedure has a variety of parts that require the ignition / engine to be on. Hi Dan, Before you hand over the car loosen off the suspension fluid tank cap. The car's wheels will be left hanging for suspension checks during the test and the tank can be ruptured if the cap is not loosened off. Make a habit of doing this whenever you remove/change a wheel also. Don't forget to re-tighten after the test. ATB Frank |

Tell them, and loosen the cap yourself - although as onthecut says, the MoT system should advise them of any specifics. Also, tell them that the handbrake only releases when foot is on the brake. They may think that it is an automatic handbrake. I've seen main dealers fall for this. I'm lucky in that I have a good main dealer nearby that I use for servicing and MoTs so they know the car well enough. 200K service tomorrow... |

They may think that it is an automatic handbrake. I've seen main dealers fall for this. My local garage, very honest and thorough with the MOTs, doesn't know anything about loosening the cap on the LDS reservoir, so not sure that the MOT system has any alerts on this subject. The handbrake does have a semi auto function, no need for foot on the brake to release the handbrake, when in Drive, squeeze the throttle and lift the operating lever and off you will go. Back to the MOT garage, they now have a large crash barrier at the end of the bay because a Jaguar XF, with auto handbrake, went flying into the wall!!!! |

On my car (a manual), if you did this on a level surface you would take off pretty quickly. Yes, almost essential to know that you can also release with accelerator & handbrake lever on a slope (well, on a manual anyway) but not something normally encountered in MoT testing. The point was that the C6 handbrake is not like some others that release automatically when you drive off, you do have to lift the lever (with foot on brake or accelerator) or it will not release. |
