OK. So I figured out my 2010 registered C6 was built in October 2008, and the Sat nav had 7.x firmware making it an RT4.
The RT 4 updates to V8.xx firmware giving (as near as I can see) the equivalent of an RT5 without the bluetooth hardware (The about information includes BT--- as if to tell me the firmware supports Bluetooth, just I lack the hardware). The upgrade seems to be fine, and my maps are against bluesky and clouds instead of Night sky and stars.

Some questions.

On the instant readout page of the trip computer distance to destination is labeled KM - all other distances are in miles. Anyone else seeing this, and found how to change it. The trip computer on C5/C6 modesl without sat nav lets you put in distance to destination and I'm sure I had this before the upgrade but post upgrade the distance seems to be only that calculated by the sat nav (and I think, despite the label it is in Miles).

As well as copying music to the juke box it would work well for me to be able to plug USB memory in for podcasts (listen once things I really don't want to burn to cd to play in the car). I've read about the USB cable that runs from the back of unit and I think it is either (a) buy from a French e-bayer or (b) get the PSA part 6574HR seems to be the cable, and 6574JV seems to the a housing to put in place of the cigarette lighter. Is it plug and play or does someone need to use a lexia to enable it ?

No Bluetooth. Grrr. I'm looking at the Parrot MKi9000, anyone got one and care to comment. Any installers you'd recommend or suggest avoiding ?

Thanks. And if I've missed these answers appearing already a link is answer enough

Hi
Have you also updated your maps and speed cams or just the software ?

Regarding miles/km, have you looked in "display configuration", "units" ?

Regarding USB cable, yes if you get one, you have to enable this function in Lexia otherwise the USB will only work for updates of maps and softwares, but will not work to play MP3 via USB stick..
And you don't have to buy a USB cable all the way from France, look here:

@theguardian , no worries - I've seen the greif you've been having.

@m3mpower Just the software. Slightly non-plussed to find I had 07/08 maps, and might yet have a follow up chat with the dealer. There aren't any speedcams loaded, and will get round to that in due course.

Display configuration is on miles, but I found when I reselected the the colour scheme it seemed to switch on day/night in the Sat-Nav, so I'm going to try switching to KM and back and see if that reets it

There is a script to set the option to enable Mp3 playback as well as the lexia option. What I didn't know was whether there was anywhing to do switch the USB on. If you'd seen my soldering, you'd understand why £15 was a small price to get a reliable cable made up instead of getting the bits and doing it myself

Don't bother with the official speed cams - at £8.99 they are a complete waste of time as they don't seem to cover the motorways (certainly not SPECs) and are missing long term cameras in my area (and even positioned one about 3 streets away).

If you want to use your sat nav for warnings, then you can use the RTxMapEditor package with another source (I use my pocketgpsworld sub) though you will need to repeat for each area before burning to a CD (or use an official RT4/5 camera map pack and then just over write area 5 (UK) - which is what I do), plus I can't get the software to allow me to set how the alerts are displayed (it's not friendly).

james theguy has just got back to mein ref to parrot 9000 he says they are a bit of a pain in the backside to fit into the c6 as hes done one before he wants 229 supply and fit he reckons halfords will do it for about 160 - 180 its cheaper but you get what you pay for
sorry for any delay in getting back to you

no worries about the delay. I guess it comes down to how much would I trust Halfords ... £50 is a lot less than the value of my time sorting out something which wasn't done right first time . If you want to PM me your chap's contact info, I'll take it from there

Just to be clear - my C6 has an RT4 which looks as though it may never have been upgraded after build in 2007 (though it wasn't registered until 2009!). It's running version 7.0.xxxx - can I upgrade straight to 8.2 or will 8.2 expect a minimum previous version first?

It seems to be operating fine (touching wood, rubbing rabbit's foot) though a bit slow on start up to get going and enable the audio... hopefully this will improve on 8.20.

Finally - is there a way of switching the main dash to KMs when on the continent?

Hi
Yes you can upgrade directly from 7.xx to 8.20.
8.20 will improve start up speed
And to change to KM, go to Menu / Configuration / Display Configuration / Units

You should install the latest speed cameras alerts, your system will beep and show the speed limit on the display when approaching a speed camera
