C6 Brake Pad Warning Light

just wondering if there is a brake pad warning light on the dashboard that comes on if the pads are low? My car is currently at the garage and they say the front pads need replacing but there was no warning light. My old Passat had it, I would have though the C6 had it?

 Yes, the C6 does have the pad warning light.

However, the pad warning is a bit like the coolant overheating temperature, in that it shows you have a problem, possibly allowing one to drive carefully home and get the brakes sorted.

Preventative maintenance includes replacing the pads long before they get down to minimum thickness (Did you know that the thermal insulation offered by the pad is much reduced when worn).

They would, wouldn't they! I'ved played this game for years with the dealership. The front pads come in at about GBP 220 at the dealers, I know from experience. They wanted to change the rears as well, telling me they were 75% worn. That was in March 2010; in March this year they were 70% worn. You should check them yourself and, if there's life left in them, change them yourself when you get the chance. You should be able to get front pads for around GBP 50 off ebay and they're not that difficult to replace.

Yep, I figured. They wanted £250 to replace them and I found official Citroen C6 pads new on eBay for £40 including postage! My local ATS know me really well and will probably fit them for a few beers. (That is when they are ready to be replaced and not in Citroen's view!)

Good to know there is an pad warning indicator though.

 Don't forget, if dealers feel that the pads don't have enough life left in them until the next scheduled service, they will recommend changing them.

Thanks Dave, the service deal is good as my 60k service is due in 1500 miles time so will certainly go for that!

 One garage tried telling me (a year ago) that my rear discs were 'badly corroded' and needed replacing. Just had another MOT (at Slough Citroen who I think are great) discs are fine. I think the other garage saw water which has rusted up on the surface and tried to bluff me.

More likely that they would expect you to authorise the work without looking at the discs yourself. Another good reason why you should always request the return of any removed parts. As I indicated above, my rear pads got fatter by 5 percentage points between MOTs!

Aha something I know about, interesting thread .

My car has two broken wires behind the hubs theses are the brake sensor wires, Citroen have fitted short wires to these and they snap at the calliper connection , this is a common fault with most models not just C6

My sensor warning never came on when I heard the edges start to scrap on the outer ridge off the brake disc . Not an emergency but something to get done with in a month if your low mileage driver.
I would bet that 60% of your cars have snapped wires hanging from the strut area in a flexible black sheath .
