I recently replaced the parking brake cables. While removing the module, I noticed that one of the mounting bushings had split into two pieces.![]() Another bushing had also started to split. ![]() After finishing the cable replacement, I started looking for spare parts. Part number *4719 08* includes all three mounting bushings. I managed to get a set for under €50 while it was still listed as "in stock". ![]() This is what I received: ![]() It also came with installation instructions. ![]() The price from the manufacturer can be over €100, so I'm adding some measurements in case anyone wants to make their own before removing the originals. Studs and nuts are M6*1,0. ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the three mountings is solid and surrounded by rubber, so I didn't replace that one. Here comes the stupid part... I decided to replace the bushings after finishing the parking brake cables because I didn't want to remove everything again. Unfortunately, the module can't be lowered very far because the fuel filter is in the way, leaving very little room to work. The nuts were badly rusted and I couldn't fit a socket onto them. I even tried a spiral extractor socket. It gripped the nut, but there was no way to hold it from the other side. The nut sits inside a recessed pocket surrounded by walls. ![]() ![]() ![]() The point of this thread is to recommend replacing these bushings at the same time as replacing the parking brake cables. Doing so gives much better access if you later need to drill out or snap off the mounting bolts. I wasted many hours trying different methods without success. Eventually, I used a small 12 V (4V too weak) cordless rotary tool with several 22 mm cutting discs. It was just small enough to reach the nuts. It took about one hour per nut. Most of that time was spent stopping to let everything cool down and spraying water to keep the temperature under control. This was the result: ![]() And this was the cost in cutting discs: ![]() My rear brake overhaul is finally complete: new discs, pads, a new right caliper (the old one was sticking), parking brake cables, rubber brake hoses, one bleed screw (the catalogue lists a 10 mm version, but mine was 7 mm × 26 mm despite there being no different caliper part numbers), and finally these mounting bushings. |
