Well, I've been meaning to start a thread on this for a while, and it appears my hand has been forced by an unexpected breakdown.

Currently away from home, went to start it after a few days, and it was in economy mode (no surprise). Dashboard came to life, turned the key and it just barely attempted to crank. "ooh, that's a bit flat" thinks I. Give it a moment then tried again.

Dash lit up again, turned the key, and it cranked for a brief moment, and then everything (and I do mean everything) went dead. No dash, no interior lights, no nothing.

Tried a jump pack on the battery repeater terminal under the bonnet, and still absolutely nothing dead as a dodo. The windows don't jump up or down on door opening, and I can't open the boot as it has an electronic release.

I think the pyro fuse has failed, as the entire car, every single possible function, is dead. So, a couple of questions for anyone in the know:

Is there a boot emergency mechanical release? This would be good as my work laptop is in there and I kinda need it for work tomorrow.

Is there a pyro fuse on the battery (I am guessing yes, it's new enough for one)

Has anyone any other thoughts?

Any and all useful advice is welcomed!

I think you a more powerful battery source to get your car working again.

I don't quite understand why the car has gone from "battery a bit tired" to "absolutely zero power at all" in about 2 seconds. If the battery was tired, it would at least be attempting to do something, but the car is 100% dead. No functions at all.

I assume it has to be a fuse failure of some sort. Or similar.

Next thing to do is have the rear seats forward, get into the boot and see what is up with the battery. Is there a master fuse somewhere?

-You have charging points under the hood. Charge battery and/or have a jump starter connected. With a source connected to the charging points, boot and windows should work as usual,

I'm a bit late to this and I hope you got your laptop out!

There's no "Pyro" fuse but there are a number of fuses on top of the battery. It's unusual for a jump pack to blow one or even for one of them to blow at all but I have had one blow when the car has been stood for a long time. I theorise the in rush of current from a powerful jump pack to a dead battery was the cause.

If your car has the folding rear seats you can at least get to the emergency release, unlike when lounge pack is fitted.

I both have and haven't got this fixed.

Got the rear seats down, got into the boot, and while squeezed in there, I opened up the battery hatch and had a prod.. which brought the car back to life. This was good news, meaning I could drive home,

However, there's clearly something amiss with that area, as there are cables all over the place, and I think something loose, as if you prod, you can kill the car off again.

Can anyone provide a photo or two of how that area above and around the battery should look, as mine is.... sub-optimal!

Cheers,

If you current cuts out " all the way" that can only happen if one of the battery connections doesn't work, it slightly loose etc.

By the way: I can strongly recommend not to start any modern vehicle with a battery that is flat: Our car's electronics can't cope with that, it might create a bunch of error messages.

Now on what's on the battery: I added 3 pictures: View on top in the car, the mass connection and a picture of the plate under the red cover with the maxi fuses. ( Mine is a 2007 Petrol, but they are all similar)
The fuse with Cat4 on it is the MAIN Fuse that goed to the front charge points and the starter. A Cat4 needs over 1000 amps for many seconds, that's more a short-circuit connection than a fuse.
I would first check the connection under the mage-fuse plate, then the mass/minus connection .

Hope this helps, Peter
