Well, the day has finally come when I say a sad farewell to my C6. After a trip to BL Autos, where I thought I would get it MOT’d and have a few other things attended to, I was informed that the entire rear suspension is shot, but that’s not all. With a parts bill alone of £2500 just to get it through its MOT and then more work needing done, I need to let this thing go. I’m hoping it will go to someone who will put it back on the road, I think with a few weekends of work by someone suitably equipped, this will be a great car again. What’s really frustrating is that these things were not picked up by the previous few MOTs, there’s no way all of these problems have occurred just over the last year, and it shows the inconsistencies that exist in the MOT inspection across different garages. As you will see from the screenshot, it’s marked as “do not drive” so it really is not driveable any distance. It will, however, happily drive onto a trailer for transport and even drive around the block here to show its faults, but please bear this in mind before showing any interest. The car was MOT’d until 4th February this year but, due to the fresh MOT, this overwrites that and the car is currently an MOT failure. You can look at my posts on here for much of this car’s history but I will provide the “good points/bad points” below anyway, for anyone who wants a quick overview.

Good points:
Engine/gearbox replaced at 190,000 miles with an engine/gearbox of around 100,000 miles
Engine has had the EGRs deleted and been remapped, now 220bhp and 540N/m torque
Both engine/gearbox very strong – gearbox probably could benefit from a full flush
Interior is the rare Alezan from an Exclusive model and in excellent condition
Wheels are all good needing just a light refurb
Glass is good all round
Reconditioned starter motor fitted late last year
Door bins all working properly
All window motors good
Full-sized spare and toolkit present
Replacement mats in good condition
All body panels good for age except for - bonnet leading edge has one area of missing paint/front bumper has one parking dent(small)/some teeth in grille broken-broken teeth are saved)/o/s/f wing rusty at rear edge
Speakers all good, no rattling or buzzing
2 keys (although both need replacement fobs – still work though)
Steering rack recently replaced with good secondhand unit with around 100,000 miles on it
New battery fitted last year (2025)
Some history and invoices

Bad points (additional to what is marked on MOT):
Discs and pads all round – although down as advisories probably best to do them all
Front tyres should probably be replaced too
LDS leak – the common power steering pipe which has already been replaced twice
Coolant leak – just the bleed valve according to BL Autos
Rear spoiler has developed a mind of its own recently, often remaining up when below 42 or 18mph
Cam belt probably needs done, just to be on the safe side
All hydraulic pipes at the rear are very rusty and should be replaced
Passenger side wiper motor has been replaced but very occasionally it stops so the problem is probably electrical, perhaps just a poor connection somewhere
This is one of the C6’s that suffers from a leaking rear window due to failed bonding and I have seen water run down on the inside during a rainstorm, driver’s side about halfway down

That’s about it, if you have any questions please just ask. It’s sad to be listing this car for spares or repair but that’s the only option now. I think the price is fair but please note that the car is now located just outside of Halifax. If you want to view it, you will need to give me some notice, a day or two, as it’s at my mother’s place, but I’ll happily show you around the car. As stated before, it drives enough to get it loaded onto a trailer and the suspension works fine to get it into the service position for loading.

I’ve bought a Mini Coupe Cooper just to get me back on the road, mainly because it was local and looked a good deal. It's a very clean car and goes well, but in comparison to the C6 ride it feels like a home-made go-kart! I’m pretty sure I’ll be returning to the C6 fold at some point. Funnily enough, there is one for sale in Keighley, just half an hour from Halifax where I’ve been staying for a while, so I went to see it, armed with my new knowledge from the BL Autos guys on what to look for. They gave me 3 main points: make sure the rear wheels sit straight (mine can't in slightly at the top due to the worn suspension components); make sure the rear hydraulic pipes aren’t rusted, and make sure there are no major clunks from the front suspension. The car drove very well, went like a rocket, but there was clonking from the front on braking, a coolant leak, noisy power steering pump, the rear wheels canted in at the top – although not as badly as mine – and it heavily tracked left. It had also been "pimped up" with a heavy tint on the windows and chromed door handles. The only thing that looked half-decent were the rear pipes, much cleaner than mine. Again, for someone suitably equipped, it may become a good car after some work, but something told me that it needed a lot doing, so I walked away.

Anyway, that’s enough from me, and I really hope my car continues in one piece and gets back on the road. Thanks to all on this forum who have given me help and advice over the years, and I hope to be back soon! If you have any questions on the car please just ask. Looking for £750. Comes with some unopened bottles of LDS and a third of a tank of diesel!

(P.S. When looking at this post in "preview" the pics are showing upside down, a common problem with pics taken on an iPhone, but they will show the right way up when clicked.)

Images sorted (downloaded and rotated in photoshop, but you might need to clear your browser cache) - If I still had a C6 I would have bought the car for the interior alone.....

Thanks for that, yeah the interior is rare. Hoping the whole car gets a new lease of life though but it's out of my control once it's gone.

Sorry to hear you're calling time on the car as I know how much you love it.

If you get it back to Scotland I would be interested in having a look at the rear arms as there was no indication of a problem when the tracking was checked at the end of June 25. If the wheels were canted in at the top, the alignment check would have picked that up as an out of spec camber measurement.

Apart from the fluid leak the other things are easily fixed, although discs, pads and tyres are not cheap these days.

Thanks MGMike but it's time to call it a day, it's costing too much. The ride has been getting progressively worse and the rear has been quite skittish over bumps, so it is possible that the tracking was done during the last few moments of the bushes usable life and it's deteriorated beyond that now. I can also confirm, after a very hairy drive from BL Autos to Halifax that there's a lot wrong at the rear of the car. The cost of getting it back to Scotland, then fixing it for the MOT and doing the rest is just too much at the moment.

The fluid leak has already cost me about £100 in LDS and that really needs to be fixed, then there's the hydraulic pipes at the back which are in very poor shape. Then there's the rear window, the heater flaps and the HUD mirror needs cleaned as well as all the other stuff above and on the MOT and the discs, pads and tyres! It's time to move on.

I wonder if Richard Kitchen from UPnDOWN youtube channel lurks here, it would be another perfect C6 for his youtube channel to work on

If I were based at UK, I'd get that just for the interior
