Hi,

Anyone upgraded their SatNav Disc an if so is it any better than the Guessing game one that is currently fitted?

Also, is it possible to have the SatNave read in the one direction like the TomTom does, I'm totally baffled by the way it works, it's all over the place, just like the French I suppose much easier with a piece of paper stuck to the dash with instructions methinks?!

Yes, it is possible.

The functionality depends on the head unit though, also the ability to upgrade the software is dependant upon the head unit.

How do I find out what head unit I have, do you know how to do that?

Cheers

Are the maps for the Navigation system on a CD (RT3) or stored on a hard drive (RT4) or (RT5) on late model cars.

Perhaps while speaking of the different RT systems, someone with an RT4 system can tell me whether their screen brightness dims when headlights are switched on and brightens when they are switched off. Mine doesn't, staying dim all the time, making it in effect invisible in normal to bright daylight, despite display luminosity being cranked up to the max. I've seen an earlier C6 with RT3, and also a late model (old shape) C5 with an RT4 like hard-drive system, both of which dim and brighten in association with the lights.

I've complained about this problem on my C6 to the dealer at every service since I got the car, but he tells me that the system on my model of C6 doesn't dim. Is he right?

Also would upgrading to the RT5 system make any difference to this irritating failing?

Regards

My RT4 dims with the lights. My car is the same registration year and spec. as the one in your sig, although the ORGA number says it was manufactured in 07.

There are several different brightness adjustments, and the two little sun buttons beside the RT4 screen do not adjust the brightness of the RT4 screen as you might expect. They adjust the main dashboard display, and the lighting in the doors.

The RT4 screen switches between two different pre-programmed brighness levels when the headlights turn on and off. To adjust these levels you have to go into the settings menu. There are two settings, one corresponding to nighttime/lights-on and another for daytime/lights-off, but you only ever see one of these at a time. Go into the menu with the lights off, and you can adjust the daytime setting. Go into the the menu with the lights on, and you can adjust the nighttime setting.

Hi, if you have a 2007 (07) or earlier plate then the head unit will most likely be an RT3, this unit uses a single Sat Nav Disc which loads into the front CD player.
Anything on a 2007 (57) plate should have an RT4 system which for use as Sat Nav is identical to the RT5.
Upgrading discs is done via the Navteq website but beware they sent me RT4 disc for my RT3 head (Their mistake not mine as I clearly indicated the year of my C6) and then refused to accept them back for a refund or exchange.
After lengthy email discussions and a Paypal resolution one of the Navteq guys agreed that I had ordered the CORRECT discs but that they had sent the WRONG ones. My issue is now resolved but it took 5 weeks.

For my part the standard sat nav in the C6 seems entirely inadequate compared to an aftermarket TomTom, which I use, and if anyone can tell me that I'm on the wrong track I'd like to know more?

There are some exception this though, My 07 plate has RT4, basically it boils down to when the car was built, 2006 registered in 2007 will have RT3 and could potentially be anything up to an 09/59 when they stopped building the 2.7. this would probably depend on the spec level that you wanted and what Citroen had in stock.

However, generally 07/57 cars do normally have RT4 but some of the later ones 58 plate onwards might have RT5 prior to the RT5 being installed on the 3.0 but again depending on what the purchaser wanted and what stock Citroen had lurking around.

I know this to my cost. My 10 plate has an RT4. A 2010 spec car should have an RT5, but mine was built in late 08 and is one of the last to have an RT4. It came with 07 maps (now upgraded).

To come back on this Sat-Nav issue again hopefully someone can give me the correct info?

I have read through all instruction info about SatNav I have and had no luck with settings, in fact I would go as far as to say that the whole SatNav system seems to suck!!!

In my honest opinion!

I have the following.

C6 registered date March 2007.

Sat Nav info on Unit;

1. Unit ref = 9663291577

2. Screen ref = 9663321780

3. Software version Unit 6.63 date 6/11/06

4. Software version SCR-C30CEOC35

4. NavDrive CD RT3 ( CD for map update)

I also have NaveDrive RT4-5 WIP Com CD for map update, this is not recognised when inserted.

I came across this photo on another car that's a 57 plate on Ebay and the Map has a Horizon view that I would like to set mine to, now I take it I will not be able to set my SatNav View to the same as this not unless the whole Infotainment Unit is replaced rather than a simple Software update of Diagnostic change by Citroen????

The best thing to do is ditch RT3 and get a used RT4/5 from another Citroen/Peugeot and replace it.

You might find you can get the horizon view - it's what you get when you zoom right in to the map. Worth giving it a try as I thought the core software behind the RT3 and RT4 was the same, just one required a CDROM for it's maps, the other a hard drive.

You don't get the 'Horizon' view with RT3, you only get the map to rotate to constant North or map to move with the direction the car is facing.

Zooming in or out is exactly that, it wont change the the view...... I know I tried everything on my first C6.

Thanks Guy's,

Re C6Dave info,

I did notice on an old Top Gear show the other day that the Peugeot
1007 had the same Sat Nav as the C6, I take it you have tried this or know of this exchange procedure, and does it require diagnostics integration when fitted?

Cheers
