Following on from a FOI request Vosa have released information on all cars but 'Honest John' has put them into readable format.

The C6 actually does well and the stats page is here: - Click Here -

OK it's early days still but here is a snapshot of where early cars are failing and it does highlight the suspension ball joint issues that owners of early cars have had:

Now for more details:

Interesting statistics Dave. One odd thing I noticed was that 2.1% of 2006 C6's fail on 'shock absorbers' which is very strange as the C6 doesn't have 'shock absorbers' in the normal sense. The damping is done by valves between the suspension hydraulic cylinders and spheres. Maybe the garages are recording faulty suspension cylinders as 'shock absorbers'.

Or leaking suspension legs?

Hard to say as your relying on someone choosing the right box to tick

I mean 'Fluid Suspension' failure 299 times worse than other 2007 cars. Well it would be as there's not many others built that year have it.........

Yes, I would say statistics here can be misleading because nobody else does hydraulic.

Depends if they lump in C5's and C4 Picasso's with pneumatic suspension by ticking the wrong box......

Lexus is also using a hydraulic system for suspension but not sure if that's marketed in europe (using a central accumulator in stead of spheres on top of the suspension cylinders). Don't know if Rolls Royce is still using hydraulics for rear suspension as they did in the past (and as we all know, RR never fails...)

Wouldn't expect anything else

Cars of that age do tend to be loved and cared for

Since it goes down to 0.3% that implies a sample of 300 cars 2.7% fail or 8 or 9 cars in 300. 299 times worse suggest only 8 or 9 cars in 90,000 fail or they have a box for a failure which only happens once in every 10,000 tests.

And the 2008 cars all dividing by 1.2 ish suggests there were only 80 odd cars in the sample.

Hi PClark, Hate to contradict but both the C6 and C5 have shock absorbers. They are very short and VERY expensive, over £300 to have one changed on my C6. Was going to be £700 for my C5 but they took it in part exchange instead. I've taken out a 3 year warranty extension but not Citroen's one.

could the ball joint failure be down the failing spheres or the useing of the sportmode putting more loading on the joints with the increasing rough
roads, just a thought.

It may be a factor, speedfix, but the 407s share this joint and they fail just as miserably!

I think the joint itself is strong, just that once the water gets in past the seal and/or grease it's game over!

Hi all, 2008 C6 presented and passed MOT 1st time.

Front ball joints (replaced in 2011 complete with grease points) obviously still good

LHS rear wishbone bush replaced 2013 - pass

Headlamp HID bulbs replaced 2013 -- pass

No other repairs carried out in 2013 that would have a bearing on the MOT, just routine servicing.

Regards
G

Pleased it passed 1st time.
Did you have any advisory items that are attributed to the C6.

My 1st one, a 2007 passed twice with 1 advisory for the power steering pipe joint leaking ( but was never fixed )

My current one has passed with no advisories but is due again at the end of November and it will be interesting to see the outcome at 5 years old.....
