From the factory the current bulbs look yellow in comparison to the Xenon headlamps.

Anyone know what bulbs they are and if they can be replaced with white LED's

OK a bit of progress.

I removed the lamp holders from the car and took them to pieces - you need to be very careful though as the plastic parts can become brittle

'So first remove the Finisher' - it just pulls off but is tight - start toward the centre of the car and work out.

Then unlip the Lamp unit at the 3 clips 'A' - push them down at the top and up at the bottom with a flat bladed screwdriver

Once out remove the power cable (b) and take of the cover (2) - take care here as the retaining clips are plastic, use a small flat blade screwdriver to gently prise out.

This is what you have (Click to enlarge)

The bulb unit is shown here in more detail (Click to enlarge)

The Daylight running bulb holder is annotated: P1 5 WST (They're known to Citroen as HP24W)

The Indicator bulb holder is annotated: PY 16 WST

Do the bulbs seperate from that unit?

I know the filament/glass is fixed immediately into that holder, but does that unclip from the main unit you've got there?

Yep, the lamp unit's unclip, looks like the bulbs are soldered in when you look at the back of them

The metal 'Hook' clips (2 on each bulb holder marked A in the last image) prise back and the bulb and holders come out as a unit

I see it's a daylight running lamp (new C4's come with those in the fogs) but can you replace them with LED's or another bulb type without any adaptation?

That's what we are aiming to find out but maybe the bulb type is so specialist there are no alternatives available yet.

2 x 382LED's and 2 x 581LED's (indicators) are en-route.

Cheers Dave, once they arrive I will take the unit apart again and have a proper look at how the bulbs themselves come out.

Well looks like the idea is scuppered for now as the indicator/daylight running unit comes as a complete item separate from the lens unit as per the image below

So item (2) is what needs replacing and is Part Number 6303 91 if a bulb blows (indicator or daylight running)

The good news is that they are only £15.75 + Vat retail from Citroen so I might buy one and have a play around.

If it's anything like my C5, and the bulb does come away from the bulb holder (2).. the bulb will look like this. As you can see the bulb is part of it's own holder and does not seperate. The search continues!.....

On a side note... amusingly discovered the C5 has 5 bulbs in the headlight!....and that doesn't even include an indicator bulb as that is housed further down in the front bumper! :0

So on the front end of a C5, adding on the foglight and indicator bulbs, there's a total of 14 bulbs on the front of it! hahaaa

Yep that's the one and marked P1 5 WST on the one I took out

Good news is though that when the headlights come on, the daylight running go off so you can't see the yellow look they have so much

Whilst it will be interesting to see if you can do this, personally speaking, I wouldn't want a set of fairy lights spoiling the front of the car! I've switched my running lights off as they serve no purpose. Either you need your headlights on or you don't and, in the case of the C6, that is automatically determined by the light sensor. It'll probably become law at some point in the future but it would be far more constructive if people concentrated on their driving and other road users, rather than rely on lighting up their cars like Xmas trees!

I couldn't find a way to replace the bulbs as the unit comes complete from Citroen I'm afraid and couldn't find anywhere to get the bulb units themselves in LED

Do you know if one can instruct the computer(s) to turn the back lights on when the daylight running lamps are on ? It is compulsory in Norway to have your backlights lit in the daytime, probably until the new EU Directive reg. daylight running lights is included in norwegian regulations (in 2012?). Of course, one can just turn the headlights on. But then you will have a dim light on the display, when it turns to nighttime setting.

Regards,
Ole
