Sorry new post as most others are for 2.7.

For about a month the engine occasionally hiccuped and went into "limp home mode". There was a beep, accompanied by the engine service indicator and "anti pollution system fault" in the log. Also the Cruise control stopped working and the Speed limited reset itself to 18mph! Cured by re-starting but the indicator and log remained for a few re-starts then cleared. Eventually the same happened except the engine cut out as well. Again the cure was to re-start. The car starts and runs perfectly after a re-start. The first time it happened was after 45 minutes at 70 mph ish. Subsequently it happened at fast or slow speeds.

Car then serviced, including replacing the fuel filter. Shortly afterwards it went into limp, but this time without the hiccup and with no dash indicator or fault log. And the Speed limiter doesn't reset itself! Again a restart means normal driving. It has not happened as often since the service.

The garage scanned the fault log during the service. The fault codes were all related to the EGR system:
P211
P0487
P1161

So is it a replacement EGR valve or something devlishly subtle?

PS I use Shell almost exclusively, (treating it to the Super occasionally)
PPS - Imagination time perhaps but I thought I could smell exhaust or other fumes for a while.

P0487 points to the EGR but I would ignore that for now because the other two suggest there's something wrong with the throttle body.
I think I would be tempted to check the connection and/or any vacuum pipes in the area.

I had the pipe coming out of the exit of the EGR replaced by BL Autos as there was a crack in the pipe and exhaust gas escaping. My 2.2 suffered from similar symptoms

bear with me as i find the receipt as my description isn't entirely clear

I'll pass this this advice to the mechanic, the garage does specialise in Citroen but have only ever done a couple of C6's. Although they did get loads of practice on my previous 2.7 Lignage over the years!
I'll also report back with results when fixed.

Well, it was fixed by replacing the throttle control body. There was some black deposit inside, especially around a hole approx 10mm diameter where I guess a sensor goes. Maybe it was really just muck build up.
