Hello everyone,

Firstly, just wanted to quickly introduce myself, and to say that I’m very happy to finally be a member of this forum. I grew up in a Citroën family (my father had a CX, two BX, Xantia, XM an a C5, and my mother a number of the smaller models) and the C6 has been my dream car ever since I first saw the Lignage concept as a child. So after 20-odd years, I finally decided to buy a wonderful 2012 example this week! It will also be the very first car I’ll ever own, so it’s an exciting and daunting time on many levels.

The car is pretty much perfect, in my favourite colour and specification, the only thing keeping me up at night is this strange tinted shading (sticker?) on the top of the windscreen. I’ve never seen it before on any other C6 and I find it quite distracting when driving, as it reduces the visibility and makes the cabin feel a bit more cramped, gloomy and just generally less nice.

The seller says it’s a factory-fitted thing, apparently french-specific (the car was imported from France and also has tinted side windows and a Lounge pack). From the inside I noticed the “sticker” has some serial numbers etched into it, so while it doesn't feel very DIY, it does still feel like a sticker.

So essentially my two main questions are — a.) What is it, was it really a factory-option?, and more importantly, b.) Is it possible to remove it? If so, what would be the best/easiest way to do it?

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Wasn’t there some sort of “privacy pack” from the factory which blacked out the rear windows? Maybe it included this windscreen stripe too? I haven’t seen it myself, but it was mentioned on this forum recently.

I think to have it removed I would ask a window tinting company to do it for you. I hear a trick could be to spray with water, install black bin bags over the windscreen, leave in the sun to heat up and then peel off. Then clean with something like Isopropyl alcohol.

Hi James, thanks for the tip, seems like a good idea to take it to a specialist. I wasn’t sure how difficult (if indeed possible) it would be to remove it and was a bit afraid I would damage something in the process : )

Would you happen to have a link to that recent discussion btw.? I don't think I've come across it when I did the initial search before posting.

But it does indeed have the back and side windows tinted, as well as the Lounge pack. I'm not a big fan of tinted windows actually, but I think that unlike the windscreen sticker thing (which can hopefully be removed), the tinting on the back & side windows is probably a bit more tricky (it’s probably not just a simple film, but the glass itself that’s tinted?).

I understand those French Government C6s had odd shaded glass, across the screen and the front side windows but had always thought that was something to do with their armoured plating rather than keeping the sun out.

I had a little search for Privacy Pack and the window tinting but couldn’t find any reference on the forum. I’m sure I read it only a week or so ago at most!

Hi, indeed it's to do with the armour, you can see they have this black frame around/inside the side windows. And the edge is thicker on the windscreen as usual, but still, no shading on the top of the windscreen. Mine must be really "special" then : )
