I'm embarrassed to ask, having changed filters on many cars over many decades but... Does the oil filter on the 2.2 engine have a plastic cover and is it just removed with a standard socket, chain wrench, or a special tool? There appears to be 2 clips on 2 opposite sides of the hex end, what are these for? (see attached photo) I'm assuming this IS the filter! I have to ask because I have managed to break plastic bits on old cars before and this one is quite important. I have also searched the forum and tech docs but not found anything about this for the 2.2 engine. |

That looks like the filter housing. It's about 18" down from the yellow handle of the oil dipstick. Below the fuel filter. Black plastic cap unscrews towards the front of the car using standard (27mm?) socket. As far as I recall the two clips on the hex head are just spring-clips to hold the socket firmly. You may have to tap the socket onto them to engage. | ||
