I've recently noticed that the Cruise Control/Speed Limiter steering wheel-mounted button is not working consistently on my car. It appeared to be fine when I bought the car but it now refuses to switch on most of the time. When it does work, I can switch between the functions and it seems to be fine. Perhaps it's just a bad connection behind the button but it joins a few other niggles I've noted - see below - which I will try to resolve at my UK specialist. Hopefully, it's not indicative of electrical problems we're likely to see as the C6 gets older!

To fix:
Noisy driver's side door pocket
Condensation in one rear light cluster
Slight lateral movement in the exterior door handles
Lack of front seat bolster padding
Slight movement in the driver's seat
Headlamp adjustment to remove 'kick'

Is the mechanical action of pushing the button consistent?

The buttons on my radio are inconsistent: sometimes they work just fine other times they are physically hard to push and then jam down when pushed. Luckily it was going through one of its bad periods when I showed it to Citroën. They ordered a new one for me in October which I'm still waiting for.

I wonder if your problem is the button itself or, as you say, maybe a loose connection somewhere.

On the subject of loose things. I feel an unnerving amount of lateral play in the brake pedal. It's probably not much movement but on such a crucial pedal it feels scary.

I will ask Citroën the next time I'm around there but wondered if anyone else has the same experience?

I've had intermittent problems with Cruise / Speed Control, I took it to Citroen and they replaced an electrical part, not sure what it was as it was all repaired under warranty, works fine now though.

Cruise / limiter issues are often down to either the brake or clutch switch on the C4 and I can't see it being any different on the C6.

The parts are less than £20 if I remember correctly.

Oh and due to the conversion from left hand drive, the switches are still over on the passenger side

Yes, the action is fine.

Thanks for the tip, Dave. I'll look into it.

I too have had an intermitent problem with the cruise/limiter funtion - mine is a 56 exclusive 2.7 with lounge pack. Luckily it has an extended warranty till 2012 and when I first had the problem (buttons on steering wheel not operating), the local Citroen agent diagnosed a faulty switch on the brake pedal which operates the cancellation feature of cruise as well as brake lights. Despite a replacement switch the problem has returned intermitently.

Just back from 3 weeks in France and Italy and cruise malfunctioned 4 times. Back to Citroen now but I may contact Slough and see what they have to say.

Incidentally in the 3 weeks on the continent i saw only 2 other C6s!

On another isssue, just before leaving I checked tyre pressures and had a valve blow out on me - Citroen fixed it but had the warranty not covered it, the cost would have been £176!!! Apparently a common problem with the alloy valves b eing weakened by sticking dust caps. Beware!

The brake pedal switch is the obvious choice as it's in a vulnerable position due to the conversion to RHD, strange that 'it's come back though.

As for Tyre Pressure Sensors, it's well documented in the forums

Robthewad, point of order on your avatar, already in use by me!!.

Re the cruise control buttons, my fault was fixed by a set of replacement steering wheel switches but this fix only lasted 4 days. Not working at all now.

On the alloy tyre pressure monitoring valves, these are designed to be replaced entirely with every tyre change.

Water and salt will enter by capillary action between the alloy valve stem and the locking nut. This inevitably will result in failure of the thin wall section. Nothing to do with the valve cap as such except excessive force to remove a stuck cap is the triggering force that caused the failure elsewhere.

Suggest that valve stems are replaced every tyre change (as per Citroen's book), replaced with rubber or alloy wheels are stored over winter and winter steel wheels are run in their place.

Regards
G

Happy New Year all,

Yes this sounds exactly like the problem I had last year , as you will see from my postings last year - Citroen NZ replaced all four switches and every is ok now.

[i][i]“Having had my C6 now for just over one month and driven 2,500km in it, I can confirm that the cruise control "reset" button has an issue. I noted this after the first long trip I undertook and mentioned it to my mechanic - who told me that this was an issue with the "network" wiring system and was something I would have to live with.

Having returned on the weekend with even more problems from this switch, he will be learning that it’s not something I choose to live with. My warranty runs out in September and I will be sure to have it repaired at Citroen NZ's cost. I will keep you informed as to progress.

Hello Gents - an update from down under. My C6 is just back from final check before the 3yr warranty expires next week. Thanks to this forum I had a list of things that I wanted completed including suspension update, brake switch replaced, B pillar trim replaced and my own complaint about the cruise control "reset” switch working only sometimes.

The good news is that Citroen NZ have agreed to replace ‘CC’ switch and brake switch as well as driver B pillar trim and I am told that downloads for the suspension and engine have been completed (would I know if they haven't?).

Of course this all sounds good, me thinks. However, being in NZ all parts now have to be ordered from France so none of these repairs can be completed until parts arrive. I will wait with interest to see if one or four switches for the ‘CC’ are replaced and whether the pillar trim is replaces in full.

//
Gents - as discussed back in September, Citroen NZ replaced all my cruise control switches, etc. I can report cruise control still working fine - but will obviously keep and eye on based G's comments below.”

regards

Ask for a before/after printout, which will show the version numbers.

ours, from when we first had it, had cruise-controls we couldn't make work - partly because we failed to understand the logic behind it all, and partly because one button wasn't responding reliably - after reading the book & excercising the switches firmly (not aggressively) over & over, all has been fine ...

Mine has been playing up for over a year now. After reading some of the posts on this forum I tried depressing the brake pedal then sliding my foot off to one side, allowing the pedal to spring back thus shocking the switch into life - I think! It seems to work for me, anyway.

I use cruise a lot due to the type of driving I do and in only 5 days was using it on each trip. All was fine until this morning when activating it via "button 1" (top right button) took 4/5 presses.

At least I now know what to suggest to Sportif in Chalfont to look at if it persists. I'll make a note and as I use it every day, I will soon establish if there is a serious issue or just a "blip".

On a wider note, driving this car on the motorway is a "wafting" superlative pleasure and I can't drive it enough. Really impressed by how smooth it is and can't wait to show it off to friends!

Wiltscub, mine was the brain under the steering wheel. And they'd already changed the buttons in the wheel. Ah, the three years' guarantee...

I've had the same problem. The dealer took a look at it and drove around with the Lexia attached to the vehicle. No faults came up, neither were the actions visible when pushing the cruise control buttons. The've recommended a change of the system, charging around €700,=.

At home I took a spray can of contact pray (inert to electrical systems) and with a cloth underneath the buttons I sprayed a fair amount behind the buttons. They worked fine again.

Did the same procedure again one week later, as dirt may have collected due to the liquid drying up. No problem since then and that was over six months ago....
