Put a new battery on it.

New battery is 100AH 830A although the original was 95AH 950A.

Still didn't start.

Put the little starter pack on it and still didn't start.

Tried again a few times and eventually it fired.

New battery reads 12.6V and 14.2V with engine running on multimeter.

However, Diagbox says
11.88V for "Battery voltage" and
11.52V for "Ignition positive voltage"

It's definitely cranking slow.

Hello rwb,

Have a trawl through the forum. Plenty of discussion on starter issues particularly relating to worn bearings.

Best regards,

If it's cranking slow I would be looking at the starter motor as Phil says.
The ECU looks for the crank and cam senors to sync before issuing a fuel request and to sync the engine needs to be turning over at a reasonable speed.

You could cheat and spray some easy start in the outlet of the air filter. If you get a better start time it all but confirms the starter as the issue.

Yes, it looks like starters are known to get tired on the 2.7.

Got a starter and found olmala's excellent guide: - Click Here -
However, that's well beyond my capability.

On my 2.2 i found my issue was camshaft sensor related. Though improved starting issues rather than completely eliminating them

IT STARTS!
£140 eBay reconditioned starter and £70 to fit it.
Had a mobile guy out to it. He estimated 2 hours but it took 3.
