Hello, lately I've noticed what feels to be loose front suspension. My C6 is the first car I've owned without conventional suspension. So my car feels like what I've had on previous cars which suffered from a worn out upper strut mount. I've looked around at other parts of the suspension I've noticed that on the drivers side, at the top of the suspension strut that a yellowish / brown rubber has started to perish and fall apart. Could this be the cause of the lose suspension feeling /noise? Can this be replaced on its own? or do I need a complete strut? and if so I'm guessing I should do both front ones at the same time? Please see a photo I took of the area in question. Thanks again for all your help with this forum, I would never of had the courage to buy a C6 if this forum had not existed!

PS - Do I need any special tools to replace the worn out parts? as I do not have lexia.

In the early history of the C6 there were some incidents of the whole strut coming loose and up into the bonnet ! So get it checked and fixed.

Hello, just checking, No one knows if the yellowish / brown rubber can be replaced on its own? The shock seems fine, no leaks etc so its seems a waste to buy a whole new shock just because the rubber has perished. Thanks

Hello, I don't believe you can buy the foam section new, but maybe you could buy a second hand broken strut and replace the worm top section with a better second hand one. Also I think the foam section is the same as the C5 or older large Citroen model. Might be cheaper to buy as well since your only after the foam part at the top.

Thanks Dave, I'll go and check it out. I'm currently living in France (Bordeaux region) So hopefully plenty of good used parts to choose from, although I havent started looking yet. Does anyone know of a good C6 specialist in this area? I might need a hand checking and adjusting the suspension.

Hello bigbruggsy,

This has occurred on our C6's and indeed is occurring on a strut I fitted about 2 years ago. I originally was concerned like you but it has not caused any issues over our 10 years of association with the cars and was not the cause of any suspension noises or rattles. So far I've found that the struts eventually leaking is what forces a change.

Best regards,

Phil C.

Hi Cruiserphil, thanks for the reassurance. I still want to get the suspension checked out though. Or if I buy a lexia will I be able to do all the tests needed to confirm the suspension is set correctly? Of course I need to check all the bushes etc .

Hello bigbruggsy,

Lexia or Diagbox will allow you to set the suspension heights if they are incorrect. It's also handy for depressurising the suspension to check the LDS fluid level in the reservoir rather than having to do it manually. And yes you still have to do the the checks for bushes and joints in the traditional way.

Best regards,

Thanks cruiserphil, I'll look into getting one. Ive also noticed over the last few weeks that during normal driving, mainly in corners the suspension is adjusting. More than i remember it has done? I dont have any leaks , there is a slight weep from the base of the front passenger side sphere, but thats been like that since we bought the car 6 months ago. Also when i try to raise the car, it seems to take longer than i remember. So that when i raise the car because of a high kerb, it doesnt raise straight away, but only after ive switched the car off. Any ideas?
