Hi, as part of sorting small issues for the sale of my 2008 2.7 Fully Loaded Lignage, I'm going to replace the two rear boot struts. Its become a little heavy to lift over time. I'm looking at these struts from SGS - Click Here -. Anybody installed these particular replacement struts and any good or bad comments.

Many thanks

Don't have experience with those ones but I got a set of Magneti Marelli ones from eBay a couple of years ago and they were cheap and good. It was worth while having them shipped all the way from Latvia to NZ (I also bought a set for GSA as well and those were good too).

SGS have supplied all my replacement struts for 10 years or more. Send them the old one for re-charging. If it won't take a charge, they send a matching replacement. Never a problem and always well priced.

I fitted some of those SGS ones a couple of years ago and the result was not good. They looked well made and they moved and lifted the boot OK but they didn't slow down, as they should, when the lid was reaching its 'open' stop, so it banged to a stop. I'd also bought some for our Saab 9-3 convertible and the same happened there, to the point that the plastic end stops disintegrated. The Saab ones were so bad that I sent them back for a refund and sourced some OE manufacturer ones and some time after, also replaced them on the C6 with Febi Bilstein units that were, and still are, OK.

I replaced mine with cheap ebay ones (maybe ~15 GBP a pair) and they are OK.

Likewise, mine came from one of the Baltic states and there's nothing wrong with them. I see little benefit in paying a high price for something that is a convenience and has no safety implications.

Pete.

I bought a pair of Magneti Morelli boot struts from an ebay seller in Latvia for £18. They are still fine. Also bought a pair for my Porsche 911 from the same seller. Arrived quickly and easy to fit. Recommended.

I'm not impressed by the Magnetti Marelli (OEM?) struts. The pair that I fitted a couple years ago are still OK but, IMO, are/were not 'strong' enough.

I've just ordered a pair from SGS, so I'll let you all know...

If anyone else orders from SGS, bear in mind that they're sold in singles, so you need to order two! B l o o d y ridiculous listing them singly, if you ask me; if you replace just one then their guarantee becomes void!!
