The car may run fine, but I would get the valve done. Unless it has failed fully shut there will be unwanted crud and exhaust being sent to the wrong places. Mine was okay for the 700 plus miles I did from France to the garage, but it was sooooooo much better after the knackered valve had been swapped out. As would making sure your glow plugs are doing what they should. And not driving short journeys. And not using non vintage Diesel. Oh, what the heck, I'm just going to drive mine and enjoy it. Now where's the nearest Shell Power garage. As an aside, I regret not getting my failed one put in a bag so that I could dismantle the actuator. I suspect that the actuator is only just up to the job and once normal use has deposited some crud in the valve it is working quite hard. Add in some life stress or extra goo from unburnt fuel...... Finding a way of refurbing the electrical 'bit' economically might be a way of reducing the repair cost. There are plenty being replaced so a few refurbished ones in an exchange programme would probably be not too difficult to arrange. The 'worst' bit of the job would be cleaning the valve.... |

Snap (OK I did 750+ miles back from with a stuck Front EGR)and once changed the car performs much better |

Hi. I Blanked the EGR-s two years ago with rewriting the ECU.No problems at all since then.fuel economy about 1,5 litres and drives nicely.no exess bildup anywhere to be seen and no exhaust problems so far anyway. | ||

Hello. Bought two new cheap(100,- for pair) China EGR for C6, disconnected original, connected 2 new one(fore and rear), adopted via Lexia. And now excellent for last 60000 km. Sorry for my English. |

Sorry for my English. No problem with your English It will be interesting to see how long your 'cheap' EGR's last as I know of 2 UK C6 specialists who will only use Valeo ones as they have had poor experience with others in the past. |

I'd be very surprised if the electrical parts fail. Having dismantled one just to see what could go wrong I'm convinced most, if not all, of the failures will be mechanical as a result of soot build-up. I'll be taking one apart next week for a clean and test... I've already done the two on YR56 and it's not that difficult. All you need is some acetone (of which I acquired 25ltrs and while back!) and 15 mins (once you have them off which takes some hours!) with a good strong bristle brush. If any/everyone whats to send there replaced units to me I'll happily clean, test and build up a stock of refurbished ones for members, at mates rates.... cleaned and tested is still going to be more expensive than the Chinese new ones which I guess is why no one has done it! |
