Soooo....I'm thinking of buying a C6. Going to look at a couple over the weekend. Can anyone recommend a good independent garage near Leicester? I know they're a bit special and I expect parts expensive because of rarity etc., but I'd like to get an idea of how much cam belts would cost (as a bargaining tool). I'm talking about the 2.7 engine (Peugeot I think) as used in Land Rover etc.

Many thanks,

Regards to all and looking forward to joining an exclusive club!

first off to the mad house...
I can't help with the local specialist but I can suggest it will be close to £1000 to change the belts, pulleys, water pump etc.

If there's no record of the thermostat housing and the inlet tank having been replaced look to get this done as soon as. That's going to cost another £300ish. The next expensive item is will be the EGR valves and I now think you can expect to change these around the 95k mile mark. Again, if no records budget for £600 for the pair. If doing all of this at the same time, it will be easier to pull the complete engine assembly out on to the floor than struggle with the limited space around the engine bay!!!

Best of luck in the hunt for what you want.

Welcome Bob,

I hope you find a good C6 that gives you many miles of driving pleasure.

I know of Mark Lightfoot Citroen specialist in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. I've not used this garage, but know of C6 owners that have been pleased.

I use B.L.Autos in Welwyn Garden City. They have about 70 C6 on their books, know pretty much everything about C6 and have customers coming from all over the UK.

Welcome Bob,

I would endorse what Shaun has said about B.L. Autos. 84 miles from Leicester so just over an hour of your time each way. You'll save that in time and cash by having Robert work on your car rather than someone who has no experience of the C6.

There are things that can be a tad challenging financially - but if you get a cambelts done it is worth doing the coolant system issues. Both of those will reduce your chances of some nasty surprises.

EGR valves may, or may not be a problem. There is a thread on here covering the pre heat fault P1351. IF you have that fault, and the car has had ordinary Diesel, and been run in a climate where post heat is required - you may have a higher egr valve probability. Unfortunately you need Lexia/Diagbox to find this particular fault.

Check out the battery too. If that is weak it will affect the car. I changed mine and the car was instantly better.

If the gearbox hasn't had proven oil changes you could use that as a negotiation too.

Hope you find one you like.

Mark Lightfoot is whom I use, is very good.

I may have a C6 Exclusive, currently being serviced and MoT, for sale shortly.

59 plate around 50,000 miles, need to check precisely, and regularly used and maintained and various problems solved eg cruise control issue, will post when/if its on the market
