The speedo on my C6 has decided to spit it's dummy, I sent it down to STSTech in Somerset and Simon has discovered that the actual VDU (Visual Display Unit) has failed. So I'm after another one.............. It doesn't matter if it's working or not, nor does it matter about the mileage as it's going to be broken for the parts....... If anybody has one or knows of one I'd greatly appreciate any pointers...... |

I still have my original dead display having eventually bitten the bullet and got a new one. It had chip(s) replaced around the regulator circuit more than once. I've no idea if the display itself still works tho it did (briefly) after each repair attempt. We can discuss further by PM if it's of interest? Robin |

Has anyone got an idea on what the actual failing partis? My display failed to turn on the other day, and though it is fine now, I would very much like to replace that transistor/coil/whatever before it fails competely and causes more damage.

Despite managing to get my hands on another speedo, it was to say the least "beyond repair" so I'm back to begging for another faulty one.........

Hi Paulius The parts that are failing are mostly the transistors and SI4431 P-Channel Mosfet: The transistors can be replaced with BSP 51 ones and the Mosfet with IRL 3803S. Information from the germans and since I have very little knowledge in this field I have no idea from where to get the parts. |

A bit more information - the eight legged transistor is: SI4431BDY-E3 Transistor P-Kanal-MOSFET 30V 7,5A 2,5W SO8 Apparently gets very hot and may prematurely fail hence the replacement with more powerful one as described in my previous post. The other two transistors are: BSP51 Transistor npn 60V 1,0A 1,5W SOT223 Use the soldering tin L-Sn63PbAg. Do not know what any of these numbers or letters mean..:-) A better picture after the replacement of two transistors: |

Time to post some pictures: The top two pictures show what the back of the speedometer should look like..... The bottom two pictures show the "repair" that had been carried out by somebody, prior to Robin acquiring his car. |

" The bottom two pictures show the "repair" that had been carried out by somebody, prior to Robin acquiring his car. " Nasty! but what's a boy to do if the tracks are burnt out? It's not uncommon to replace damaged tracks with wire but whats the vero board strip there for? |

I tried googling that 8 legged transistor and it shows parts which are 3 (and a half?) legged (one big contact on one side, and three on the other, one beig "cut short"). Is that ok? Other than that, I'm looking to just order these parts and resoldering them myself as a preventive measure. Should be a lot cheaper than sending it in for a professional repair. |

Yes, but it would be nice to have the more powerful version so that it would not get as hot. |
