Been owning motorcycles since 1973 and driving cars since 1974. Over 150 cars to date and almost the same in motorcycles. Yes i like variety. Only 2 wives so far though!
Current stable:-

Citroen C6 2.7 V6. November 2008.

Citroen SM. Newly bought and under restoration completion. 1975.

Citroen 2CV6. 1987.

Citroen 2CV 1130cc custom. 1986, but most of it brand new. BMW 105 bhp bike engine.

BMW M4 coupe. 3.0 twin turbo straight six. Phenomenal engine and economy. 425 bhp but low and mid range power to humble many huge V8s and even V12s.

Nissan Duke 1.5 diesel. Perfect chores car. 60 mog. Does everything and anything.

Kawasaki ZX10R motorcycle. 200 bhp /180 kgs tells you about it's performance.
Bugatti Veyron-esque, 0-130 mph.

Wow. Great stable. Can understand from the choices that you love driving.

What will you do when all cars are electric and self driving? The day is coming quickly!

Politicians may dream of the day but the infrastructure to run an electric car simply isn't there, well not in the UK.

We have had 2 pure electric cars and have given up due to the range and lack of charging facilities. It's very hard to find a charger away from home that is available due to all those BMW, Mitsubishi etc. Hybrids that park up on them for free making it impossible to plan a longer journey.

Then there is the time factor required in stopping to charge the batteries.

Sorry for taking this off topic but all those expounding the virtue of all electric cars should be made to live with one now as there everyday transport.

Hi all, I was a bit of a sceptic regarding electric cars. After driving a Tesla S, I know that I was driving 'the future'. The change is coming and its coming fast. The Tesla surprised me not only with it's speed and silence, but also what a good drive it was and the seats were fabulous. Much better that my C6's which are too wide for me and I can't set them up to hold me laterally firmly enough. Passengers on winding roads complain about being thrown around and I think I drive smoothly. By the way, I am far from slim unfortunately. The Tesla's range is 300 - 400kms in the model I drove. The new Tesla 3 at less than half the price will be very attractive to buyers I think. I wish we could retro fit the Tesla technology (and seats!) into the beautiful C6 architecture. In NZ there are more recharging stations popping up all the time.

Affordable cars here have dreadful range. I drove the Tesla Insanity or whatever it's called in San Diego this year and it was awesome. £150,000 though.

THe range figures are a bit liked 'claimed mpg' on petrol/derv cars I'm afraid.

Electric cars ranges vary dramatically depending on outside air temperature and battery load.

e.g. our 30KW Leaf claimed 150 mile range but we only ever got near 130 in the summer.

In the winter when it's cold and wet with the heater, wipers and lights on that dropped to sub 100 miles, with motorway driving it went down even further....

Battery technology has a long way to go yet.

That's the one i drove and due to the silence, the feeling of acceleration was mind-blowing up to about 110 mph.
