1. 'ABS sensor' alert comes up on dash, so you (foolishly) take it to back-street mechanic
2. Back street mechanic tells you it needs new ABS sensor (although you do tell him, "Yes but just because that's the error code, it doesn't mean that's what it is").
3. Alert returns immediately
4. "Oh well it must be the other ABS sensor". "Really?" "Yes, really." "Okay, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt"
5. (One ABS sensor later). "It's the wheel bearing that's setting it off."
6. (One wheel bearing later). "It's the lower ball joint."
7. (One lower ball joint later). "It's fixed."
8. (One month later). New fault message: "Replace brake pads."
9. Return to garage, only to find under new management, who aren't very interested in the £300 of parts and labour you've shelled out. But they do find the electrical cables to the wheels have been cut on both sides, presumably to make the original 'ABS fault' message go away and make me think the car is fixed. They patch up the connections and diagnose bushes gone on wishbone control arms. Probably all that was wrong in the first place, huh?

Hi Percy, on this website there's a list of independent Citroen specialists and of course dealers that have been reviewed as excellent/good/bad and of course it always pays to ask for a view.

regards
G

On the details of your problems, cutting the ABS wires would never have cured the ABS problem warning light. The cut wires might have been the pad warning sensors (I have disconnected these myself due to false warnings on wet salty winter roads). It likely/possible that your car has actually had a bunch of real problems, just they have been diagnosed and cured in an inefficient manner.

Percy, we met at B.L.Autos soon after you got your C6, when they checked it over for you.
It might be worth a return trip there.
They really do know what they are doing, give honest advise and charge fairly for a professional job.
They warrant their work too.
I do appreciate it's perhaps not the closest or most convenient garage for you, but peace of mind would.hopefully make up for that.

Many thanks Shaun, problem has been logistical really, unless it's a Saturday morning job it is a big headache for me to leave car and then return to collect. But I'm realising expertise with these cars is hard to find.
