I have what appears to be an unused Michelin Pilot Primacy spare tyre in my boot. On closer inspection I note that it's a 225 and not 245 as all the other tyres on the car are. I suspect this spare is what the car left the factory with as I know the C6 had Michelin Primacys on when they were made. I'm just curious as to its smaller width. Is this the standard size for the spare? Is it a space saving exercise?

I noticed that on my new toy. Also, a 17" rather than 18" in my case. Mind, it's a tightish fit to extract, so maybe anything bigger just won't go.

Mike.

Hi, 225/55 17" on a steel rim is the standard factory spare for the 2.7s.

A 18" 245/45 18" on an alloy rim will fit in the well for the spare but the boot baseboard, will sit about an inch higher.

A nice bonus for most 2.2 owners and a rarity these days - the spare is actually the same size as the rest of the tyres.

When the development of the C6 began (1999-2000) it was to have 17" wheels. The body shell was therefore designed with a 17" spare wheel well. By the time the C6 was launched in 2005, wheel fashion dictated an 18" wheel on the V6 cars, but it was too late to change the body shell. Hence four 18" wheels on the corners and one 17" spare in the boot.

The rolling diameter is the same!

But the width (245 vs 225) is different as you already mentioned earlier. Adapting that would mean altering the body or raising the boot floor. And the boot already isn't that high...

The recess under the boot base (spare wheel well) doesn't know or care what size RIM (the spare wheel) is being put there: could be 16", 17", 18" 20". Its irrelevant. So actually, there's no anomaly. No design issue around the imagined change from 17" to 18" that would affect the spare wheel well.

Can't think for a moment what supposed issue this thread is supposed to be addressing!
