Hi Dave, perhaps prevention is better than a cure: we have a recent post regarding cleaning the motor commutator to prevent premature failure.

Its a bit like the auto transmission and sealed for life story.

I have just started to get this fault message. The suspension moves up and down to High and low settings OK so I hope the fault is minor. Could it be low levels of LDS in the reservoir?
I need to fix this before the end of March for the MOT

If it's still going up and down ok it's not likely to be the pump, it could be a number of things.

Best bet is to try and find someone with a Lexia and get it plugged in so you know exactly where to concentrate your efforts.

David.

Hi

I'm new to the c6 forum but have done some work on my c5 x7 exclusive's suspension. The pump on mine blew the 40 amp fuse and when I got to look at the motor it was clear it had been running hot as the brush holders were melting off the board. Anyway I bought a reconditioned pump/motor unit from a citroën Peugeot specialist in holland. The ecu on the top of the original gets swapped onto the new unit and the whole thing works fine. No reprogramming required. Just a bit of messing about removing the lds tank and pipes with the suspension on the high setting and battery disconnected etc. The unit was £350. I suspect it might be the same assembly.

Cheers
Stewart

Low LDS level is simple to diagnose:

Engine running, send the suspension to max height. If the power steering pump starts to sound like it's cavitating (gulping air instead of liquid) before max is reached, then it could be a little low on fluid.

LDS can only be topped up correctly via Lexia. You need to access the suspension ECU menu and fully depressurise the suspension system. It takes three minutes, ignition ON but engine OFF, and with the reservoir cap loose. Once it's finished, Lexia will let you know on-screen. The fluid should just cover the lower, centre circle of the filter basket in the reservoir.

If you don't have Lexia, send the suspension to its lowest position (engine running) and, with a bright LED pin-spot light, observe the centre of the filter basket -- you should barely see the surface of the fluid beneath the basket itself; if the fluid reaches the basket, then, once Lexia is used to purge the system, it will puke LDS all over the garage floor!
