Hi All, finally took the plunge today and as of now I have a lovely black Exclusive 2.7 HDi sitting outside. I've always wanted one and have a love of all things French and daft when it comes to car.

In terms of French cars the C6 represents my fourth, however I've only ever owned Renaults this will be my first Citroen, despite wanting an AX GT when I was younger.

Anyway I'm based in Bagshot Surrey way, so if you see me, give me a flash, I'll be the one who looks well out of place in a C6 but I'll have a big smile.

So the question I have is this, everything works as it should on mine (a minor miracle I'd think!) except for one thing. The parking sensors are in Fault. When I put the gearbox into Reverse I get a message saying 'PARKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEM IN MALFUNCTION' or words to that effect and the SERVICE on briefly. Where do I begin with looking at this as a possible fault and to add some more info into it. Citroen Lookers in Barry WALES looked into the fault, I have an invoice dated 28/11/2015 and the final line is

REP - PARKING SENSOR ECU IN DIAG ( not sure that'll help)

I'm assuming the loom running in the boot by the spare wheel which goes into a Bosch box has something to do with this?

Final point I need to add is that at some point there was a sealing issue with the boot and water ingress happened. However given the previous owner (judged by the invoices) just gave the car to a main dealer and said fix it. I'd assume this is an issue that has only just happened.

Hopefully I haven't waffled on too long and be nice!

Luke.

Also I appreciate this'll send a bit 'simple' but when having the wheels refurbed I'm guessing its pretty easy to bork the wheel pressure sensors. Is there a list of approved places who are likely not to mess this up?

Welcome to The Dark Side, Luke. Why would you look out of place driving a C6? Just interested...

I, too, have a passion for French cars. My Cit-list aside, I've worked my way through

Simca 1500
Renault 16TL
Peugeot 504 Injection (two)
Renault 16TX
Peugeot 305 van (1905 diesel)
Peugeot 305 Break (1769 diesel)
Renault Scenic II, 1.5 dci
Renault Espace III 1.9DTi
Renault Espace II Helios 2.0i (currently in daily use)
Peugeot 307CC (currently hers)

Can't be of much help with the parking sensor issue. I'd suggest calling BL Autos and making an appointment to visit for a diagnosis and to have the car given the once-over - Click Here - From what I've learned, no-one knows the C6 better!

A good wheel refurbisher will know how to deal with the TPMS valves. Also, never fit metal dustcaps onto them; I'd strongly advise anyone to use only the plastic type! Dissimilar-metal corrosion sets in and can cause much heartache.

There's no such thing as "waffling" here, btw...

Congrats on your new acquisition, Frozenbeard.

As e3 says (and he's not a bad chap, really) don't be afraid to waffle.

I had wheels refurbished and no issues with sensors. A diagnostic session would be best to try and get more info on the sensors fault before going digging. Nice to have them right as they're very useful and normally reliable.

Best regards,

Phil C.

Very funny Steve. I've attempted it a few times

Hi Phil,
did you get a chance to start on your 07 C6 timing belt yet?

I almost got around to it shortly after Christmas but just got the radiator leak fixed first with the new radiator.
All holding well now and I hope to start back around the end of this month. Hopefully. Will take photos.

just to say, I'm sure you know all this very well already even though I was very gentle I still broke the swirl pipes in at least three places. As Steve and G warned the forum well in advance, they were as brittle as a fresh biscuit! Not good at all to touch.

I bought a full replacement for €150, Citroen dealer discount included.

Glad to know waffling is fully accepted.

In response to the question asked earlier it's just a few of my friends have commented on my height to the cars size ratio...spoiler alert I'm not that tall.

Thanks for the heads up about BL autos, might have to book something in that said I do have a place called PTS near me who are Peugeot Citroën specialists and specifically mention they have specialists for hydraulics? Anyone have any experience.

Oh and the wheel question was asked as I started reading about how you can't just jack the car up and take all the wheels of and leave it on stands without something bursting...

Welcome Luke, I'll look out for you as I live just up the road in Ascot.
For the last couple of years I have used Forge Motors of Cookham (a family business... Ray and his son, and his wife in reception) and highly recommend. No info. on PTS

Hi Frozenbeard, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your acquisition of the C6. I'm assuming you wish your ownership to be trouble free and for everything to work. I'm suggesting that you spend a little time in the forum to see what problems owners have had with the tyre pressure sensors:

Unless you have receipts or some other reason to believe the sensors have been replaced, your car is now 7 years old or more and that is about the battery life of the sensor battery. More importantly, the early sensors have very poor anti-corrosion coating on the valve stem and suffer from the valve stems snapping off (either at the wheel rim or at the valve caps, as previously mentioned). I'm suggesting that for reliability the valve sensors are replaced at the same time when you get the wheels refurbished. Make sure you buy new stock to ensure fresh batteries and the latest anti-corrosion coating.

For the water ingress into the boot, this is something you should be able to fix yourself: a likely point of entry is where the rear light clusters bolt through into the boot interior.

Regards
G

Yes I have receipts for the sensors being changed. Late last year in fact. The car had one previous owner in Barry who simply just gave his card and car to main dealer and said fix it! The receipts are simply crazy but its a good record of what's been done and lots and lots of stuff has been done.

Hello Peter. I'll have to look into Forge motors that's not to far away, assuming they are very good at hydrapneumatics.

Oh and main dealer did reseal the rear light cluster so it may have gone again or be the other side, or simply just not dried out properly last time. I've dried out the rear and will monitor now.

Oh and I except lots of trials and tribulations along the way, I was an engineer for 15 years and will tackle most stuff. That said I'm now a train driver maybe I don't like getting my hands dirty...

So I had a quick look at the paring sensors, looked all to be in tact, no multimeter so could test continuity however the smallest(middle) plug had a lot of green corrosion which is not helping I'd imagine this really should be my first port of call.

A little more worrying is a small drip near the front offside wheel up in engine bay, looks oily so suspect hydraulics, MOT stated corrosion to front pipes as an advisory however this was only the tail end of November 2015, so I'd be surprised if its progressed to a leak so soon.
Is there a exploded diagram of suspension and pipes as situated on car to look at will help pinpoint leak either way ill book it in...

Welcome to the world of C6 ownership.

I've seen at least 2 C6 were the rear windscreen bonding has failed, allowing water to leak in. Try gently pressing the screen from inside the car to see if it moves at all.
A window company removed and refitted the screens with new sealant and all was then OK.

Your oily leak O/S/F wheel could be the rubber pipe underneath the LDS tank. Usually a replacements jubilee clip will fix that. My petrol car had a leaking pipe in that area, feed to the steering rack I think. Pipe cost about £100 plus about an hour to fit. Suspension struts often leak too, I had that as well.
B.L.Autos have worked on my cars for 15+ years and I'd recommend them. Well worth a drive up on a Saturday morning for a check over and advice on what may need doing. I often pop in and make coffee for customers, we call it the 'Saturday Morning Club' as plenty of enthusiasts gather for a natter.

Hi Luke
Had the same problem 6 months ago. Forge motors replaced hose clip, 1 ltr LDS fluid and 30 min. labour.
Invoice Total £51.92
If it's not raining you can pass the time with a stroll by the river to the lock.
