Hi, my car is generally only used weekends so in the winter I was thinking of using a solar charger (4w) to keep the battery topped up. Does anyone know, will either the cabin or boot 12v supply sockets accept charge when the car is idle? (Perhaps only cabin, on the assumption driver may want to light up when parked in a lay-by?) | ||

Ignition off and you don't get power from the lighter sockets so don't see how your going to put charge in The only option may be the socket in the boot, but I'm not sure if that is permanently live or not but as you then at the back of the car you may as well connect direct to the battery. For the engine bay, just use the 2 remote terminals at the front. |

Direct to battery would seem the most logical. 4W into a big battery (especially if only left unsupervised for a week or so would not present any great issues). How are you going to physically attach the solar cell to the car? Presumably the small wire leads could just run over the boot seals? |
