No not one of those fussy modern ones, a 1974 D Super in Bleu Delta with Bleu Vert velour seats and trim. Bought it from Nick Hopkinson in Tockwith who some of you may know. (There's actually a pic of it in the ICCCR 2012 book) It needs some work on the seats so anyone know where to get replacement covers at a reasonable price? |

Try Segal Motor Trimmers Ltd in Manchester, they may need a sample (cut a little from the back corner of a seat where it is unfaded), or your local motor trimmer, or one of the DS specialists. Best of luck G |

I had 2 1974 DS, my only cars 1980-1997. Both 5-speed manual 23 Breaks. Many small problems sorted out for the last 72-74 production years, so congratulation with a very robust and driveable classic !! But yes, textile (velour)seats were not of best quality, plastic even worse, but leather good and expensive. Buying a full set of seats from somewhere would be less work. As I remember I found a company that made me very high quality tailor-made covers, they had the forms. The old seats with new covers lasted as long as the car itself. | ||

Yes it's not 'fast' but doesn't have the complications of fuel injection and semi/auto gearboxes and a D Super is half the price (and more) of the more complex cars. It's basically an updated Traction Avant with hydraulic suspension in a modern body...... (the purists will be after me for that comment no doubt) Nick bought the car in France, from Jean Luc Bardon of Thiviers in the Dordogne in June 2001 whilst on holiday and drove it home. The cars original French registration number of 6222 RJ24 confirms that the car was registered in that department and other documents confirm the date of 1st registration as 25th March 1974. Body shell, paintwork etc. is sound, it just needs some TLC on the interior and Nick didn't have the time (he still has his small boot 11BL) Graham Morton has looked after the car for a few years now and when he gets back from holiday I'm going to get him to give it a service and check the hydraulics etc. out before I get it home and start on the interior |

Hi Phil, TS3? Ecurie Ecosse had a very nice Commer transporter, was that the same thing? Also, the TS3 refers to the two stroke opposed piston diesel, Roots scavenged!!! Regards G |

The interior you want is available from Germany, for a Pallas car, in either red or blue. You'll have to fit it, I think, although I don't speak German so Í don't know. It costs e2650, delivered. en.shop.citroends.net/pallas-innenausstattung-gemustert-rot-73-74-satz-vorne-u-hinten.html Alternatively, you could get a secondhand leather interior (like mine) from ebay, with the door trims, about £1000. Be very careful, though- go and see it first. There are secondhand seats around, if you want, I've got some front and rear. Tim |

Not wishing to go off topic but to answer G's question. Yes G, it's the two stroke opposed piston Rooots blown. An amazing sound from it. It's an artic tractor unit 1966! I can get a full replacement set of seat covers and door cards for a D Super from Citro-Classique in the Netherlands - Click Here - for 1090 euro in the correct blue velour Tim UK D specialist quoted £2,650 + Vat for the same!!! Leather would be nice but I don't want to spend a fortune on the car like I did on the TA but if I went for leather, I would get it custom made locally. |

Just phoned Germany and the interiors are Part Exchange, so they think it would be another 300 euro for transport both ways! Oh well, nice idea but...... |

Hi Dave, I don't know how difficult the machining (sewing) is for your DS, but what about using a local Trimmer to create from scratch. I'm in Aberdeen so used a "local" guy based at Alyth (not far from Dundee or Perth) as an example. It depends on what recomendations you have and the finish you are looking for. Sometimes this approach ends up which a better product than what the OEM provided, also depends on your approach to "originality" and "patina". What condition is the headlining and carpets/mats. Sometimes New Shiny seats look ill at ease with a lived in headlining... then where do you stop. I'm sure you know the score from the Traction. I remember my young kids (then) getting bits of uphostery foam blown in their eyes if the windows were down at speed. Something had to be done!!! The original on Dave's DS was, frankly, a load of rubbish- the older ones were a lot better, and the very early ones better still. I had a 1973 DS with 80000km, where the drivers' seat bottom was totally worn away. Hence the leather-which was and is of very high quality. The new look for the velour is probably better, but I don't know! I would go and see, and probably Retromobile in February is the likeliest solution. Or, G's solution- wish my upholsterers were as cheap! |
