Asked my girlfirend to hang out of the rear window whilst doing 80 down the M6 earlier, so that she could clean under the spoiler whilst it was 'up'. She refused

Has anyone any suggestions on how best to do this with the car stationary?

Cheers

Shortly after switching off the ignition, press down on the wiper stalk, as if to turn on automatic wiping. The wipers will move to the edges of the screen (handy for changing blades) and the spoiler will pop up.

Remeber to but some oil/grease/rustproofing on the parts in the mechanism. Some of them rust and some will gradually have difficulties moving freely and then there will be problems.... (and costs)

Don't try to force the spoiler back down when you've finished cleaning it (as one guy in my garage tried to do!)... whenever you hit around 6mph it'll return to normal position.

Yeah, as above, put the spoiler in service mode using the screen wiper stalk within 30 seconds of engine shut off.
Spoiler will then deploy to full height and will not retract again until you hit 6mph.

I clean under my spoiler with a damp cloth (not wet) and follow up with a little wax before finally using a little Ferrosol high performance lubricant by Bilt Hamber which I spray on all the iron parts of the mechanism.

Thanks for the advice Magichands. I actually used lithium grease on the moving parts. Is this acceptable or should I invest in some Ferrosol?

If it is dry and not too dirty I think lithium grease is good for the hinges. I use both ferrosol and grease

Mine hasn't got a spoiler, I suppose the 2.2's didn't warrant one!
