Hey guys, Long time no see... I have a bit of an odd one for you... The automatic gearbox on my C6 (2006 built-2007 registered 2.7HDi Exclusive) is acting up... The first symptom that I noticed as far back as 5 months ago were rev-ups higher than usual somewhere between 1st and 2nd - it's like you start rolling from let's say a traffic light, applying only gentle pressure to the throttle, and all of a sudden, somewhere between the 1st and 2nd speed the engine just revs up as if you had accidentaly taken the lever to neutral while still having your foot on the gas, and then it shifts and then it picks it up - but the shift is pretty jerky - there's a slight stutter when it picks up the 2nd speed... And this usually happens after driving in traffic or after driving a bit more aggressively for even a short while, but not too aggressively... Now, the next symptom, which is only happening for a few weeks, but I think it is connected, is this... After driving a bit more agressively, but not overly aggressive - it's not my style and I personally think the C6 is not the car for that... Well anyway, after a period of slightly more aggressive driving - overtaking, maybe gunning it at a bit after a traffic light turns green, stuff like that, when I get home and I put it in reverse to park it, it doesn't engage reverse at first, but then when it does, there's a strong jerk and a noise - the whole car get's pushed back, like it had been gently bumped by another car - that's the general feeling... What should I do?!? Thank you. My best, Sam |

Hi Sam, I think you need an autobox specialist who can log the shift hydraulic pressures and adjust the shift points to eliminate the "flare" you are describing. The change of fluid wont hurt but it will not cure it either. Worst case is you may need a new hydraulic control block which Citroen sell as a spare unit

Yeah, this unit costs 1265 Euro in Germany, last time I checked and takes about 3 to 3.5 hours to replace (about 250-300 Euro labour costs). This box REALLY needs its oil changes, despite Citroen claims there's no need. The box manufacturer says once in 3 years or every 60 000 kms. |

mark28 wrote ... Change the fluid Mine's been better since I changed the fluid. It still has hiccups whereby it can't make up its mind which ratio to use, thus hunting between 2/3 or 3/4, but it is definitely better. I've now carried out two 3-litre dumps/replenishments. I intend doing a couple more of the same before winter. |

There is a saying in life "If it aint broke, Don't fix it" but does this apply to gearbox oil. My 07 plate with 54,000 on the clock runs fine but do I change the oil or leave well alone whilst things are running smoothly? |

Ok, I will do a gearbox oil change next week, and I know that it actually needs 3 or more before all the fluid gets replaced, but I really am afraid that this won't fix the problem It's getting worse and worse - yesterday I raced to the Bucharest National Bank Tennis Arena and back and by the time I got back home the hunting and jerk between the 2nd and the 3rd was brutally violent... It revved up to 4000+ rpms when hunting for the 3rd and when it picked it up it felt like I just got rearended by a Garbage Truck So, beaides changing the oil, what else should I/could I do?!? Thank you very much. My best, Sam |

Hi. I had the same problem. Changed the fluid and now working 100%. You wont get all the fluid out but enough to make a difference. Your symptoms can also be from low fluid level in transmission.

Change the damned fluid! Three times, around 300-500 miles (500-800kms) apart, three litres each time. Use Comma ASW, about GB£11/litre online (I have a trade account with a local Comma supplier but it's still a tenner per litre). I used a 60cm length of Terrain/Bartol/Acorn 15mm dia. polypropylene-type water pipe and a smallish kitchen funnel that fitted into the end perfectly. Follow the downloadable instructions to the letter. - Click Here - |

Does anybody else find that the first drawing in the download is corrupted, or is it just me? Geoff |
