I've had this system for about the last four months and I've had nothing but trouble with it. It promised a lot, but delivered little. Since I posted the reply shown below, on the Alfaowner Forum, the thing now totally refuses to recognise the iPod. Their latest firmware version was supposed to address some of the shortcomings I listed but now it's totally kaput.

I've been in contact with Parrot's tech support and tried all of their suggestions, to no avail. A couple of work colleagues also use the MKi9200 and have been having various problems of their own. I think it's time I looked at an alternative.

I have a Parrot MKi9200 in my Citroen C6 and, to be honest, it's not as good as I'd hoped.

When I bought it, it needed a firmware upgrade to even find my iPod - even now, the connection is flaky. Parrot claims that the interface is fully iPod compatible, but I have my doubts.

Secondly, it will only play songs in alphabetical order. There is no option to choose from albums, playlists, podcasts etc. I tend to have to pick what I want to play before starting the system and then plug it in and hope that the Parrot will find it. Often, I have to restart the kit, by switching the ignition off and on again, for this to happen. If I decide I want to listen to something else while driving, I either have to pull over, switch off the car and repeat the above, or just go back to listening to the alphabetical song list. Oh, and it only plays through the front speakers.

Thirdly, the Bluetooth connection to my Nokia is also quite unreliable. You also get nuisance interruptions to the radio or CD changer, such as when the phone battery reaches fully charged. If you get one of these nuisance interruptions when listening to the iPod, you have to press play again to resume or sometimes it won't even play at all.

All in all, I'll not be buying another one and I wouldn't recommend them.

Has anyone tried one of these new 9702.EZ/Xcarlink interface boxes yet, perhaps with the optional Bluetooth module?

I'm not sure whether it will be compatible with my head unit, as I don't know what type it is. I have the Concert Pack (JBL amp) with SatNav. Would anyone be able to advise, please?

Did you get any further forward with sorting this out?

I've just purchased one of these so I'll give my feedback once its fitted and I've had some time to play with it. i am seriously hoping though the sound doesn't just come out of the front speakers as I want to use the AUX cable instead of the [%*^#@!] AUX input on the C6. I will make sure when they install it the rear speakers also work.

Well, its fitted and I have to say, its been costly! Firstly I bought the wrong ISO cable from eBay (even though it said C6) and the actual cable cost me an extra £70. I bought a 2nd hand Parrot MKi9200 for £100 on eBay trusting it would be OK. After the cost of the cables and a £70 mobile engineer to come round and fit it, we then found both the membrane and screen to be faulty!

Totally gutted. Engineer changed me £160 for a new unit and fitted it and everything is now fine. Sound out of all my speakers works. I am a bit confused with the contacts as its synchronized old contacts that I deleted from my phone and SIM card. Can't work that out.

It also doesn't like my 32GB SD card for music. It locks up. But so far, iPod, line in and Bluetooth is excellent. Its cost me the best part of £400 though! I currently have a case open on eBay though for the original faulty unit and usually eBay and Paypal favour the buyer so i should get my £100 back. The seller has no interest in helping me.

Would I recommend one? Yes if you buy new with the right cable. The line in is a million times better the the quiet AUX input on the C6 which is worth it alone!

Rich, it's been a while since you posted this message. However I hope You will still remember the right cable name/symbol, some hints to help us sort out which cable is right.

I know Parrot offers special cable and additional box for RT4/5 with ref. number PD000109AA and regular one as for RD4 with ref. number PC000016AA. As amp connection in C6 is not the same as for example in new C5 I am confused which cable is right. C5 has multiplexed amp and C6 not. multiplexed means only stereo signal (front left and front right on socket), balance and fader is done thru CAN bus.

In C6 all 4 speakers signals go to amp which has no CAN bus features. The only problem is that signals are of low power, since they are only fed to amp and not to the speakers.

Hence Parrot with regular RD4 cable will distort sound on high volume settings and will not have precise settings on low volume settings.

This - Click Here - plus enabling call forwarding on my iPhone to the six's phone number, plus a bluetooth remote for the iPhone, such as this one - Click Here - does the trick for me, at a fraction of the cost and without compromising the clean look of the dashboard ...

And sure, it's quieter, but the good thing is that it remembers volume settings per source, so my default for radio is 5, for CD is 7, and for Aux is 14, and when you turn it up to 21 it's loud enough to enjoy a good tune, and you still got 25-27 for when you want it crazy loud

And the good part is that if you have an iPod Classic or an iOS device with iOS 5 or lower, it also works with video

Cheerios,
Sam

I am having another Parrot 9200i fitted to my new C6 on Sunday. My last one worked very well apart from the sound of the music playing back on the SD card which distorted at high volumes. The same guy that fitted my last one came round today and after an hour, said he couldn't do it and it was impossible! I was bemused by that as he did it last time (both RT3 systems) but I now have it booked in at Halfords on sunday and for £40 less, they are doing it. I fully expect the same problem with the SD card as before but as long as the call quality is good as it was time, then I am happy.

Scratch Sunday, I didn't trust Halfords! I'm getting it done on Thursday now. Decided to go for a proper audio specialist who knows the JBL pre-amped system well and the head unit. He knows exactly what needs doing and thinks that the distortion on the SD card playback on my last C6 was either a faulty unit or was installed incorrectly. I hope that proves to be the case as the idea of SD card music without fiddling with my iPhone is appealing. Of course the main priority is bluetooth phone calls and I know that works fine. I'll report back after the fitting.

OK, I have finally had my 2nd Parrot MKi9200 fitted to my 2nd C6. On my first C6, the call quality was OK but the sound quality on the music was dreadful and distorted.

This time, I had James Harris from Advanced In-Car Technologies fit the Parrot. His installation was totally different to my previous one. It was the first time James had worked on a C6 and to say it was a bespoke install is an understatement!

He made a wiring loom to bypass the music from the Parrot to go via the AUX input while the calls work as normal through any source. The music coming through the AUX means because of the pre-amp in the Parrot, it comes out louder then usual and distortion free, plus you can use the head unit volume whereas before, it didn't work.

He has also mounted the Parrot screen in a better place. The whole install looks factory fitted and I cannot recommend his work enough. He told me he can make up this bespoke cable for any other C6 owner with a Parrot fitted (or intends to buy one) in order to bypass the music through the AUX.

Now its been installed correctly, this is better then any in car bluetooth system I have ever seen or heard. A far cry form the last effort! Check out James' business at - Click Here -

Hi Rich
Could you post a photo of your installation to show where you put the display? I am thinking of getting one and the Halfords guy wanted to know where it would work best.
